Thanks for the advice Cloudbringer. I just hit 9nth ( of 8th monk 1 wizard) and having fits with diseased slimes and the trolls in trade way. ( I forgot how fast a hasted monk can run)
Any advice on the slimes? I have tried bare hands, clubs, Kamas and the only thing that seems to work are spells ( fireballs.
Also are all the drow on the second level of the basement as hard as the 3 archers I ran into. Again feets don't fail me now!!!!!

When you hit level one of Undermountain you might look for an NPC to assist you. Moric, a Ranger / ?, can be found by going northeast to the first passage way around and then straight south. He will be behind 6 barrels. Roddybug, a wizard, can be found by going southeast and down the narrow path to the doorway. There is another doorway a bit south and due east, that will just lead to a bunch of undead. You will run into some resistance on your way including a Ettin (or is it a golem of some sort?). Once you go through this doorway Roddybug can be seen to the southwest. I am not sure if his water elemental buddy is always with him, but it has been each time I have had him join me.

Anyway, either Moric or Roddybug can be very helpful to you through the first several levels of the Undermountain. They sometimes get stuck if you go through secret doors or the yellow transporters, but they will always join you on the next level.

Roddybug usually calls the elemental when fighting starts in his area, probably when triggered by one of us going by, I think. Cookie will go with you, too, from the Inn.

As for the slimes, I think edged weapons are pretty ineffective with them, but I had luck with fire/acid, I think. Pick up some acid bombs/fire bombs at Durnan's if you think of it. A very tough hammer worked for me once, but it was from a much lower level and not something you'd likely have with a newish character unless you got lucky in the 'used items' area of Durnans! (by which I mean when you're selling things and others have sold him some high powered stuff from down deeper in the Undermountain.)

PS: Yes, the drow in the basement are tough! If you make it through that, you're good for levels one and two down the well, no problem! You can always try those first and go back to the basement after you level up a bit, too.

Down at the bottom left of your screen you'll see a bar for typing in and to the left of it are commands 'tell, shout, party' etc. Click one of those. Tell is for one person, you'll need to click their avatar pic first. Shout is to all on the server and party is just for those in your party and is used most if people want to chit chat a bit while playing but not annoy others who aren't in the party.

Lots of us shout hello's or ask if stones are still available and it's a good way to see if anyone wants to party up with you or if you can join an existing party as well.

That's right, the default is set for "Talk" which is just people nearby. Click on "Talk" and you get several options, I've never been quite sure what "Whisper" is for, but "Party" and "Shout" are there.

To "Tell" someone you need to go to the bottom right icon under your character's portrait. That brings up a list of players on the server. Just click on the name of the character who want to send the message to and then click on the Tell Player button at the top of that screen. Stuff will appear in your chat window, leave it alone, just type what you want to say after that message. This window is also how you join or leave parties. Once you're in a party you can just click on the portrait of the player and "Tell" them that way or ,of course you could just go for "Party" chat. If you hover over the picture you can see where the player is in the module. That's handy for grouping together.

Oh, welcome to the module, I forgot to mention it earlier! Have fun.

Shouting is useful for such occasions as when you walk into lvl 10 which someone has stirred up already.

There are massed ranks of lizardrealm archers just waiting there for you.

You may not get many words out before a respawn but what you can say might relieve your feelings a little.

Though I have studied the centre pages of playorc many a time I have never been intrested enough in goblins to really say what sex they are. Are they like hairy dwarves that are very hard to tell which sex is which? *shudder* I guess cookie is a boy, though if any brave warrior wants to take on the ultimate quest and find out for sure be my guest. *ugghh* So does anyone know cookies sex for certain? And if you do please do not tell me how you found out!
