It has something to do with its onhit weapon properties due to it casting a death spell on hit. This is the way its supposed to work as it is a very powerful weapon.

Black blade of Disaster - possible spoiler.
It is a disaster. It seems to act like a cursed weapon. Unless you have an immunity to death magic you die when you use it and it does not seem to hit hard. Worst of all, you cannot drop it or sell it once you have it! |

Never did like that sword, until someone used it on me in the pvp arena, easiest duel I ever won...
