I finished the mines scenario in the most extrordinary way. Simply made the prisoner Xan part of my group and after doing a charm person spell on him, sent him into the room to get his beloved sword from the chest. I dont even think I needed to do any spell at all. He cleared out his stuff plus all items and we left! No kobolds no fight no nothing.Mind you this was on the 56th attempt after many tactical failures. Once again thankyou all.

Why would you need to do a Charm Person on him? And why didn't the main foe down there initiate conversation with Xan? Wasn't he part of your group at the time? Maybe if he ran fast enough... Like a Haste spell.. But you didn't mention anything like that.. and wasn't the chest locked, anyway?

Or perhaps you meant that the foe didn't initiate conversation with Xan because he wasn't part of the group, only a charmed creature. If that was the case, how did you open the chest? It seems very strange to me...

Illumina, I think Eirik meant that he charmed Mulahey, and stole the papers allowing him to pass to the next chapter. If you ask me there should have been some way of making the game flag you for having killed Mulahey before being permitted to pass to the next chapter.

Its how I said it. the charm person was on Xan. Perhaps the game makes allowances for people like me who keep on flogging away at the same task all night, I've come across that before. Or it was unforseen by the creators of the game. Or it was unloaded in the game. I just know Im not going back there!
Mulahy is very hard to kill, even when you can get him on his own

So you didn't kill Mulahey. Did the game progress onto the next chapter then?

And I don't consider any fights to be "boss" fights in a TRUE RPG. There are slightly more challenging fights, though they can be made extremely easy using the right tactics.
I think that the final fight in BG1 (no spoilers) definitely qualifies as a "boss fight", seeing as it's about 3x harder than anything else in the game (and even worse when you're playing with BGT, enemy mages have high level spells, and you have a 5 creature summoning limit).

Welcome to IW, Eirik.

Sounds as though you're having a bit of a tough time with the game. In your case I'd definitely suggest wandering around and exploring the open map areas, because they're relatively easy and can boost your party's gold and experience quite substantially. They get a lot harder than Mulahey, so I think you'd do well to adventure in some of the more rural maps first, before continuing with the story. Don't be afraid to spend money, either - if you've got the cash, go ahead and buy that magic weapon or armour.

And make sure that all of your characters have magical weapons. Don't give 1 character all of your magical items.

Ok if your all still there I suppose I should say that; 1. I have been touring the wilderness and collecting a heap of weapons and cash.
2. The game did not progress past chapter 2 and so with a full party I went back in and had it out with Mulahy.
3.It was worth going back in 20 times over for the stuff he had!
4. I was promptly killed by a bounty hunter. My character is a fighter with aspirations. Magic attacks hurt though.
5.Enough of me!

4. Was it Greywolf that killed you? Try to take him on...he's got a nice sword.
