Seeing this reminds me of the first time MG Jnr played the game. He knew nothing of RPGs, chose a Bard, accepted the first stat roll (unmodified) and started playing. This character completed the game ok, so there really need be no worries about starting out with any class - except possibly a Mage with next to no HP.

I dont think in PnP any DM would allow rerolling

No, but I for one allow Point Buy... You get 25 points and distribute them as you will. That way you don't end up with a cleric that has only an acceptable wisdom (15, say), deplorable charisma, and high Dex, Strength, and Intelligence.

Normally we use 6 rolls of 3d6. distribute the 6 rolls as you like. Roll 1d4 and place the points where you like. Now you are able to buy 1 point for 2 points. Ex lower your INT with 2 and add 1 to DEX, if you want higer DEX. Fighters are only allowed to roll STR percentage if 3*6 were rolled on one of the 3d6 rolls. You are able to buy percentages though as 1 step in the STR table for 2 points.

PS: If it is not possible to be above the limits for the class you want (ex. paladin or ranger), the DM can rule that you are allowed to start all over with the dice rolls.
