Chapter 1 finale - locked chest - Page 2

Went back and reloaded the game at Helm's hold. The trap wouldn't take damage form a magic arrow, so I had to trigger it myself (barely survived). The lock is a level 34 - I couldn't quite pick it at that stage with a +3 set of thieves tools (I was a 29 - some +6 stuff and I would have done it) - the chest would take no physical damage. A rogue could give you an answer - anyone else (even my half rogue) won't know - the chest was also resistant to the knock spell.

Elemental damage is elemental damage, it doesn't matter if it comes from a weapon or a spell. I've heard on some board that someone opened that chest, and it had a nice two bladed sword. I don't know if there's any truth in that though.

You can't bash open the chest - even if it does elemental damage

to open it you need to beat DC 34 (and survive the trap)

use thives tools and potion of cat's grace (take off heavy armor) to increase lock picking skills

It contains a random magical treasure

You know, until you mentioned there was a trap, I didn't even notice it. I must be making my DODGE or REFLEX SAVE rolls when working with that chest. I didn't take any damage. Yep, couldn't use anything to open the chest other than my thieving skills. That was how I knew that it needed a DC34 to open. I tried just about every scroll that I could think of that was elemental, but nothing damaged the chest. I also used my +5 Longsword (Aribeth's Revenge), and couldn't damage the chest at all either. It has random treasure as well. Pretty decent, but nothing spectacular.
