Tanis Half Elven, Raistlin Majere, Caramon Majere were all "classics"... they don't cart them out for every game.
How 'bout Hank, Bobby, Eric and Company?
I am also well aware that they/forgotten realms existed before Black Isle... I've been playing since the Red Beginner/Blue Expert Boxes came out before Forgotten Realms.
As for "reinventing the classics", did I ask they be reinvented? Given a Jenny Jones makeover?
I read the first 7 or 8 of the books- and they got progressively worst after the completion of the first trilogy. Like the Batman movies they sacrificed character development for big name characters.
The same tired Drow and Demon enemies crop up like Jason Voorhees or Freddy Krueger... oh, it's Matron Baen're. Again. Yawn. An invincible army. again. Artemis Entreri, again.
You would think with a new game, new system it's time for some new blood.
I guess they do need them, however, or a good chunk of the game's players would be incapable of coming up with their own "character identity" devoid of the usual suspects.

I couldnt agree more , OBC!! Out of all the forgotten realms books Drizzt and crew have to be the most munchkiny over rated characters to date.
