I'm not sure if I like that idea. It would be more realistic, I guess, but then you're still limiting the best loot to Rogues.

Sort of off topic, but I don't like the box explosion animation from bashing a chest...why destroy a whole chest when you can just bash the lock?

bashing seems to be much faster than waiting for your character/henchman to unlock the chest/door. I just can't stand waiting for eternity my character/hecnhman to open chest/door.

that depends on the chest, I've seen ones with upwards of 40 damage resist, only hitting it over and over with the stonefire axe took it out, and believe me having a rogue around who could pick it easily would have been alot better.

I think rogues are ok, but if you don't add some levels of warrior you're hurting too much in the physical combat areas to survive most of the big fights

I can't prove it, but it seems to me, that when I bash or destroy chests the loot in side is of lower value and quantity than if I let ol Tommi disarm the trap and pick the lock.

Bodysock?

Is there a correlation between loot and the mode of chest-opening? Do potions gets smashed when you bash the chest? Has anyone ever done a study where you see if there is a difference like this?

well, my sorceror has NO problems opening any chests at all. (aside from those that CANT be opened) all i do is cast knock. if that wont work, a fireball or two does it for me. spells that destroy the box, will also destroy any traps on it. very nifty if you ask me.

The wooden chest might "give" a little easier than a metal lock...

Smashing something is not exactly a finesse action. It's just too much bother to aim at a tiny little lock which may or may not be even exposed, than it is to just smash the lid in.

And it won't be possible to reload the game if you destroyed the contents of the box by smashing.

Boxes are Schroedinger. The box contains everything and nothing until you actually open it and see. At the moment, smashing boxes does not affect the contents at all: Contents are generated only at the moment somebody actually looks in the box, hence, until the box is opened, it contains everything, and nothing. However, it's quite possible that somebody will implement it so boxes yield different contents depending on whether they are smashed or opened.
