May be my lamp wasn't in proper working condition, but it worked while using on the same character that had it in inventory. I mean - clicking Use/give, CTRL-clicking on the same character. And the lamp was put into the slot for quick-items (where potions usually were).

Did you try clicking with using the Cntrl key? Hmmmmmm. . . just wondering? Let us know what happens. Lots of people have trouble with this. Did you check the "best tips" threads? Sorry it isn't working for you, darn it!

WOOHOO! I have found my Jinni!
 I had stepped off my ship onto the shore, but had not moved far away from the boat as I was using the lamp. I moved further inland and tried again and VOILA! There he was! I appreciate everyones help and advice... you all are GREAT! LOL mammawlin! Leave it to the dog eh?! Sounds like something my cat would do...
 I have experimented a little with the lamp now. You cannot get the Jinni to appear on the boat, or on the dock... or too close to the water. Kind-of silly if you ask me!  He is a big guy though, needs his space I guess!  Thanks again for all your help!
