By no fighter, I take it you mean no rangers, paladins, or multi fighters? If so than no I have not played without a fighter. I guess you still have bards, theives, clerics, druids, and mages though so you still have a good selection to choose from.

That's right and while Clerics make good front line defenders, they don't have the weapon skill to do heavey damage, so it makes for much more variety in the playing strategy. Another sobering thought is to play without archers, that will create a whole new set of problems to overcome.

It's not a big change--A Warrior as your Tank will still only get a small percentage of the kills, no matter what his THAC0 is, compared to the archers behind him. His THAC0 will only make a difference when you're up against enemies that are resistant or immune to missile weapons, such as Battle Horrors. So, 95% of the time, the only difference between a Cleric or Fighter/Fruid Tank and a Warrior Tank will be their hitpoints.

As for a no-archer party, I'm actually doing all right with that as well. I tried using my Barbarian as my main Tank, but due to my weak AC I was suckin' down all kinds of damage. So, I brought up Yeslick, Jaheira and Montaron to share the front line with me, with only Imoen (Dualed) and Garrick to fire from the back row. Our Front Four are quite a bunch of bruisers--Yeslick's AC is 2 points better than mine, and I'm the one who was supposed to be the Tank.

i got one archer and 5 people who just wade on in ALL of whom do heavy damage including clerics and druids, i normally take down hard guys in seconds when they get surrounded, only in the big battles do i bother with tactics, much more fun just wading in and taking em down

Just posting a brag about my dwarven fighter. He went in against about 5 ogres, 6 ogrillon and 4 half-ogres.
He singglehandedly took them out... without taking a single hit himself!
It was funny, all the large monsters just standing around my dwarf and waving their swords.
That is a nice example of hack and slash!

I think I know the fight of which you speak.....actually what *I* thought was funny there was having Xan cast Sleep and watching 3/4 of the beasties fail their Saves......and while we were chopping up the Ogres as they lay helpless on the ground, Khalid pipes up with "Gorion would be proud of your actions!"

ogres are such a problem at level 1 then by the time your level 6 you wonder why on earth they worried you, they cant even hit my mage most of the time was funny cos i hadnt fought them for ages then that woman at top of iron throne summoned two of them both on my mage, was hilarious as he chopped them both down and hacked the woman up before she knew what hit her
