That's why you protect your party from evil, that way the elementals go after the enemies only.

Plus you get experience for what they kill

Once elementals zero in on someone, they don't stop until that someone is dead.

Errr... Duh?

What i meant was, that i cannot prevent the elementals from targeting the stronger enemies instead of the weaker enemies that i want them to take out.

Summon them closer to what you want dead. It helps to come with Resurrect spells memorized for that fight.

Oh well, i suppose the mages are a bit weaker, but it´ll still be problematic as the elmentals tend to wander about, who know´s who they´ll be attacking...

ARen't there a couple of undead-killing weapons in the game, the Hammer of Lucren and a mace, or is that just for demons?

Yep, those work on undead, but the DC (or whatever that acronym is) of the weapons is like 10-ish. The only practical use I found for them is getting lucky hits off of the greater demons in the battle squares.

The Hammer of Lucerne is one of my favorite weapons. It makes the Kuldahar fight so much easier, and it was also very useful at the Underdark exit with the elementals.

i agree. the only time i used the hammer of lucerne was when there was loads of low xp undead, cuts through them like a knife through butter.

I'm in the middle of my HoF game now, I played through about 3 times on normal with different partes, but i'm in the underdark so I haven't reached the undead areas yet. Oh, and I didn't realise they worked on elementals too!

As for battle squares, stand outside the door and whack the demons, they can't get through! Probably a bit cheesy now I think about it, I mean, you wouldn't just stand there would you? Or are most demons stupid? They always seem quite intelligent when you meet talking ones, like the guy in the Hand

Electicity does miracles. Fire elementals are totally ineffective against Efreet because they are of the same element. Try using Fireshield Blue and pound with Cones of Cold and the like.
Fire Elementals may not cause any damage, but they are immune to the fire damage. And thus make a great meat wall against Efreet.

Iyachtu Xvim?
Lower Resistance, and then spread the party, start hitting with heavy damage wide area spells like Delayed Fireball and Horrid Wilting.
You need to keep Xvim's attention if you're gonna try to hit him with area effect attacks. Additionally, he has some rather high resistances. IIRC, it's best to hit him with blunt weapons.

High Level Undead
Turn Undead is useless in HoF. But Undead affecting spells seem to cut it. But I never had any trouble with them, just cleave through them like you do with any normal folk.
Try using other undead and elementals against them. Also, look at the specific undead monster in question. Skeletal undead will be susceptible to blunt attacks, while more fleshy undead will be more vulnerable to slashing attacks.

The game tells you, electricity. Geedle's Electric Loop is one of the best spells in the game, and here is where it shines.
Try using high level monsters combined with area effect attacks. In particular, Fire elementals combined with flame attacks are a great combo. There's nothing like dropping nukes on the baddies when your own summoned monsters are immune to them.

Lost Followers
By far the hardest fight in the game. Way harder than the final one. Critical hits with bows, axes, fists and oodles of spells and summons really bite. Come prepared, come in force and when things look bad, Holy Word is your friend.
Keys to this battle... tough summons, lots of buffing, and know your enemy.

Kill the nuking wizzy to the north FAST. He's the worse.

Send one summons to deal with the archer in melee. (Best if it's a boneguard, since it will be nearly immune to the archer's arrows.)

Spread your other summons around to keep everyone busy. Be VERY careful of the enemy dwarf. He's absolute murder.

Try to kill the summoning wizzy to the south after taking out the nuking wizzy. You don't want her summoning too many monsters.

These guys are nasty, but completely beatable with solid preparation and good tactics.
