You don't *need* any class. You can live without a mage, a theif, or a cleric, which most people like me find *necessary*. Mages are fun, and they can do big damage to lots of enemies *fast*. That is if you have the patience to pause the game and think a little bit. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Going without a mage can be very hard. My mage has saved my butt a number of times. Spells like magic missile, chromatic orb, web, melf's acid arrow, fireball, skull trap, otiluke's resilient sphere, cloudkill, chain lightning and finger of death make them wothwile. Nothing like seeing your mage kill a pretty high level priest with one casting of finger of death.
