Most of the best weapons you can get in normal play are +4, with a few exceptions (like the +5 Greatsword of the Soulless). Conlan in Kuldahar has the +4 weapons. Heavy-duty items, alas, are in HOF mode only. You can't get anything really good even at insane difficulty. Unless, of course, you cheat

Speaking of which, what's the deal with the insane setting for non-HOF games? All it does is crank up the opponent stats while at the same time not increasing the experience gained or the quality of the weapons. I can understand the HOF rules where the opponents are intensified, but so is the experienced gained and the weapons. That's incentive. In insane mode, it's just annoying to beat down on an orc hopped up on PCP and crack, take insane damage from said drug-infested creature, but at the end get no experience (or the same experience you would get for beating down the more mellow, calm, heroin-infested orc in normal mode). Maybe the world would be a better place if we could get all these orcs into rehab. Along with the programming team who thought up the dragon's eye portion of this game.

Yeah, that's one of my big quarrels with the game. They didn't do it on a progressive basis, where increased difficulty meant increased rewards. Was very disappointed with that. I'd really love to have an intermediate difficulty between normal and HOF.
