I think the issue with the sword breaking stuff is that you give swords to party members who can't work with them.... they have no (e.g) short sword abilities like:

short swords: +
long swords: ++

maybe you let a ranger with only bow and crossbow abilities fight with a longsword... maybe that's the reason your swords are getting broken...

Nnnnope, my Elven ranger has Long Sword ++ proficiency and his bastard sword STILL breaks!

Guess I'll have to look for some magic weapons...anyone have a place to find one or two (short/longsword, bow, doesn't really matter how good/what KIND of weapon it is, as long as it's magical and wont' break!) because it'll save me tons of money I would imagine. I mean jeez, I have a bastard sword, I spend 1000+ gold on a bastard sword+1 and then it breaks! Awfully expensive I bet...

As for the wolf....center of the map and/or further south of the mines....I'll check there.

Well spotted Billy Yank. I forgot about the one near the mine itself. If you move towards the Cloudpeak Mountains there should be a wolf or two. If I remember correctly, there are more to be found if you go South East of Nashkell. During one game there were loads of pelts to haul back to town, though it was a tough fight.

As for magical weapons, Beregost does a good line in items. So too does High Hedge (though you may have to run around a bit from the wildlife there if you haven't been there already). Other than that, its a case of looting the dead. Sorry, but that's about it. Find 'em, fight 'em, loot 'em. Once you get an MI then it won't break on you. Honest.

Hrm, I tried sleeping in the center of the map with the entrance to the nashkel mines, but no luck with any wolves there. Tried sleeping south of the Exit to the mines, no luck there.

...Are the winter wolves REALLLY super duper incredibly rare, 1 in 1000 times you rest RARE or am I still looking in the wrong places?

I just wanted a place to earn some DECENT experience (6 pts per person per wild dog is just PITIFUL). At least with the wolves (975 exp per wolf) I get something resembling decent -- about 160 pts per party member.
