Are you sure? In PnP it's a -1 to the dexterity roll, and I had thought that it was implemented this way in IWD. Have you tested this?

One of my more useful fighters was a halfling fighter/thief with specialization in daggers. Armed with Spinesheath, a potion of giant strength, and a potion of speed he was exceptionally deadly, especially against enemy spellcasters.

well he would be strong if you gave him potion of giant strengh wouldn't he?
if trhat potion were an increase in stats instead of a set stats then it would be better with another race

Not necessarily. As a fighter, he could wear the Belt of Stromnos and have a permanent strength of 19.

There is no "better" choice, only what you do with the character choices you make. [img]graemlins/petard.gif[/img]

Updated the list to add thieving bonuses (and penalties), which by the way give the short people better advantages.

why do elves get a minus modifier for picking locks?
they're above it?

Dont ask me. They might be weaker physically but then picking locks doesnt require any extra physical strength (it's picking locks after all, and not bashing locks).

On a side notice, I also think dwarves get penalty to their stealth (-10?) but am not really sure.

yeah dwarves getting a penalty to stealth make sense (they're big lumbering and noisy)
but the elves with a penalty to pick locks presuming its a skill you learn you would have thought elves would be good at it, it just doesn't make sense...
