I would like to say that I am personally fond of mages (they are more interesting than fighters, in my opinion). I always have Dynaheir and Xan in my group. No specific reason why, but between the two of them they seem to get the job done.

That's because Xan is an Enchanter (Opposition School: Evocation)
and Dynaheir is an Invoker (Opposition Schools: Enchantment, Conjuration).
Any 2 of the recruitable Mages will cover all the bases.

Edwin is the one who can't cast Identify or Detect Invisibility.
