Yes... go for the revenge. But i think Gorion would oppose this option.

Um... all those choices for armour are a really *really* long way off. You're going to have to battle all the way through Shadows of Amn and quite a bit of ToB before you see any of them. Even if you get the components for some of them early, you won't be able to forge them until ToB. Same goes for the weapons. My own Fighter-Thief made do with Shadow Armour +3, a nice set of studded leather available reasonably early on, which was then swapped for a set of Black Dragon Scale - also cheerful. Those two should see you through SoA reasonably well. I grew quite fond of the Plate of Balduran +2, too.

Mind you, one of the reasons I like *these* suits of armour is because they're black. The fighter-thief was Evil, he wanted to look the part. Bwahaha, and all that.

Adjatha the Drinker +2 and the Pixie Prick +3 are a sword-and-dagger combo I got to know very well indeed, from one of the first quests I did. They should tide you over until you get the mighty Blackrazor (am I to assume you're Evil as well? If not... you will be...)

Not all of them. Note that True_Moose is soloing. As a result, it's reasonable to assume he'll attain his first High Level Ability even before Chapter 3. All it takes for one to obtain JansenWear is a single pick... and a cruel, cruel heart. A few Hardinesses later, you're on the ball.

Regardless, your point is excellent. This is something I learnt while designing many of my no-reloads characters - you want power, and you want it *now*. This cannot be stressed enough. Sure, the Barbarian is a strong character, with it's innate physical resistance and all, especially since it combos well with Hardiness - but it's no good if you can't actually make it to such levels. Pre-mods, Fury was the ideal choice - break out of Jonquil's Place, kill Koshi, loot, run away. The game suddenly becomes easier (it may sound as if I'm exaggerating if you havn't experienced the power of Fury yet. Try it. You'll like it). With the advent of Imp GC, it's a no-go. You actually need Spell Immunity: Abjuration now. Ages and Carsomyr are still there, though. I'm rambling. What I'm saying is, when it comes to building one's character, take "difficulty to obtain" into account. It's an unbelievably important factor.

This is a very good point you make, Tancred. Remember though, I can get a lot of money quite fast, since I won't be using a good 95% of the magic items I find (excluding potions and the like,) as well as a high pickpocket rating complemented by potions of master thievery. I'm planning on using Dakkon's Zerth Blade and Blade of Roses early on, with Shadow Armour and Balduran's Armour. Then I'll move upwards. I'll get flail next, for the (reasonably) easy to obtain Flail of the Ages. Afterwards, I'll get dagger because, to be quite blunt, most of the daggers in BG2 are s*** compared to katanas and longswords, so I want those first.

I still heartily recommend Adjatha, possibly over the Zerth Blade. Dak'kon's sword might do serious damage for a single-handed weapon, but Adjatha has a rather handy immunity to charm and domination thing, which I gather is probably quite handy for soloing. It'd allow you to wear a cooler helmet than the old Hat of Charm Protection, too. Or an Ioun Stone. There's quite a good one of those early on that gives you +10 HP and +1 THAC0.

Adjatha also heals 1 hp a hit, too. Not much, but then it is only +2.

Everyone always forgets Namarra +2, too. It casts Silence 15' Radius! Handy for beating the stuffing out of low-level mages.
