Another very solid point indeed,.. the final battle is a pretty chaotic place.
There are a few "auto-pause options" you should have enabled: - when enemy is gone ( dead or invisible etc. ) - after spell is cast This is a nice bare minimum which makes your life a whole lot better

Okay. I hope you have those Protection from Magic scrolls. Immie and Aerie both have one, and target one each to Abazigal and Sendai. After that, the battle is rudimentary, seeing as the spellcasters are now effectively out of commision. Try to get Balthazar to Glitterdust Sendai in the beginning so that you can actually do something to her. If not, then it'll be pretty tricky. But then again, I've never done Ascension without at least 3 Mage/Sorcerers. Summon up Planetars/Mordy Swords for summons, and preplace them close to the Five. That is essential. Pretty much only Planetars can hit the Five hard enough, and pretty much only Mordy Swords will survive the Five's physical attacks. Try to get them away from any Death Spells. Buff up as usual beforehand. Set up a Chain Contingency with Imoen to Protection from Magical Weapons, Project Image, and Protection from Energy. Remember, your spells are refreshed when you touch the pool, allowing you to replace that Chain Contingency/Planetar with another spell. Again, Glitterdust Sendai. Try to get off a Time Stop from the hopefully Project Image'd Imoen, who is hopefully wearing the Robe of Vecna. Once you do, Improved Alacrity, Spell Strike, Breach, and Lower Resistance x 3. Check out the buffs that she has on. Then, bombard her with spells. Try to at least take her down, but if that's impossible, then don't worry. Ilasera is a pain in the butt. That's what I suggest Protection from Magical Weapons in a Chain Contingency. Her Arrows will Dispel and cst Miscast Magic on the person. Aerie should, as her first spell, cast Protection from Magical Weapons. If you don't damage her too much, then she won't go Ethereal, which is why your first attack against her has to be quick, savage, and utterly letahl. Sendai's Time Stop, if you couldn't kill her (or at least disrupt her) in time, will hopefully also be 'wasted' on some Mrody Swords. Either that, or against your well-buffed warriors (you did buff them up well, right?) Now, Insect Plague from your Cleric/Ranger, targetted at Yaga-Shura, will hopefully also catch Sendai, and she can't cast any more spells (you did Lower her MR, right? I think that she might also have a Spell Immunity: Conjuration up as well is you didn't SpellStrike her). That is, if she doesn't Onyx Ring the hell away from there. Focus on one of the Five, beat him to as close to 1 HP as possible (use CTRL-M if you're not certain), and move on. As soon as you have Gromnir, Abazigal, and Ilasera pretty close to 1 HP, then split up you warriors to take each one on. Those three die, then Melissan appears. She targets Spellcasters first. Bah... Protection from Magical Weapons will save you here as well. Breach is the devil, however. And watch out for that damn Unleach ability. Then, kill Sendai (who is also hopefully incapacitated at this time by the Insect Plague, but she has a nasty habit of putting up a Improved Invisibility + dual Fire Shields and just teleporting around- sic Balthazar on her), and focus on Yaga-Shura. Bah... Yaga-Shura is the devil as well. 99% immune to everything. Don't skimp on the Greater Whirlwinds/Improved Haste. Beat the bastard down, and hope that you don't get dusted by Melissan while doing this. Oh, I forgot something. Melissan's Demon Army. Bah... Try to lure them off with your summons. Remember, every creature that they kill that's not in your party, is using time that will help you kill off Yaga-Shura. As soon all of the Five are down, then concentrate on Melissan. Hide Aerie off in some corner, and have her keep using the Rod of Ressurection(s) to heal Balthazar or your party. If you want to, you can also sneak in and use Greater Restoration. She will periodically Time Stop and summon some more demons. Remember, this is the final battle. Use everything that you were saving for this final battle.

You -dont- have to deal 501 Damage to her ... There's only one way of defeating her, and it requires for a condition to be met. If that condition isnt met, she'll just retreat to her Throne and rejuvenate. However, once the condition -is- met and you get to fight her for real,.. you'll only have to deal 101 damage to end it all. Remember, she used a rather big portion of her power and Bhaal-essence to summon back "The five". That's not something you do without consequences ... Five <--> 500 HP ... hmmmmm

Looks like you lack in the Heavy Weapons department and most of your characters have dualed/multied "badly" in terms of powerplay....
A good powerplay multi/dual would be Thief 4 /Wizard 27 Giving you heavy wizard powers and barely enuf thief powers to use a bow. YOU need a level 30 something fighter or paladin to keep on hitting Mel as she regenerates fast.

I just beat this game for the first time tonight, so I figured I could go ahead and read the spoilers about the final battle. But, funny thing is, I STILL got spoiled, as Mellisan never summoned the Five in my battle with her. In fact, I was shocked by how easy the battle was. I cleared it with only one casualty. Is it possible to slay her before she summons them?

The fact that this thread discusses the Ascension mod isn't a approval of the lack of spoiler tags Dundee. I mean; put a tag in the main heading with: "Ascension" or something like it. It really makes me pissed off that these things occur without a good reason for them.

Sorry, I had no clue that we were talking about Ascension. Until Dundee's post, the word isn't even montioned anywhere in the thread. And here I was wondering if something might be wrong with my game...
