Drow armours have very few (if any!) class restrictions. This is why Valygar can wear the Drow Elven Chain. He might even be able to wear Drow Full Plate +5 (I know barbarians can). I'm fairly sure he can't wear regular elven chain but I'm far from certain.

Whilst I have to agree with most of Dundee's points about Valygar (he does not suck, and can be a great tank if used correctly), I didn't agree with the above statement. Valygar has an INT of 10, Minsc has an INT of 8. A 2 point difference can't really be classed as superior, and when it comes to Mind Flayers (assuming they drain 5 points of INT with each hit...not sure), they will both be dead in 2 hits anyway.

Valygar is indeed a kickass melee man, but he just can't reach the AC that Plate-wearers can. Sure, the Corthala Family Armor, Improved Corthala Family Armor, Shadow Dragon Scale, White Dragon Scale, and Grandmaster's Armor are all very nice, but compared to Shuruppak's Plate? Add in the fact that his being a Ranger makes him most useful for Dual-wielding, not Shield-toting. Also, since he's Human and not a Paladin, he gets no bonuses to his Saving Throws at all.

In my game, Valygar was unable to wear ANY of the Drow armors. Kinda sucks when Nalia can wear better stuff than Valygar can, and cast Horrid Wilting in it, to boot.

[ADD:] Drow items are notorious for their inaccurate restrictions. I've discovered that Wizard Slayers can wear Solaufein's Cloak, and I believe Druids were allowed to use their Longswords, Flails and Crossbows until BaldurDash stepped in. Barbarians marching around in Full Plate+5 wouldn't really surprise me. [/ADD]

The White Dragon Scale Armor is actually as good (in terms of AC) as an armor can get. -2 AC is only equalled by a handful of metal plates in the game and only drow armor and the BMU can top it.

Valygar is a very good tank/fighter, certainly just as good as Minsc. What I have against him though, is his dreadfully dull personality.

Perhaps, but -2 AC with what Armor Class modifiers? Nothing trumps Full Plate.

What I was trying to point out was that Valgar is a better tank than Minsc, not that he is the ultimate tank. It has always bamboozled me when people ooh and aah over Minsc for tank material, then eh and er over Valgar.

This of course... is from a powergaming perspective.

That's mostly because people mix the stats with the personality and image of the character.

It could also be because Valygar's stats are probably a bit too good for his characters...I mean, Minsc is supposed to be a muscle bound maniac, and yet Valygar isn't that far behind him, and far ahead of him dex wise.

I'll have to agree with Jim, here.

Just to sort things out, i checked, and Mind Flayers do indeed drain exactly 5 INT points per hit. The effect lasts for 30 time-units - aka, 5 rounds.

If we include Sarevok, he is the best, right? Is there anyone who considers he is weaker than others as a tank??

The only "weaknesses" Sarevok has are his lack of a kit, his not-quite-perfect DEX and his Saving Throws--Humans get no bonuses to their Saves. Korgan is only a little bit behind him in the DEX department, which can easily be taken care of with a visit to the Machine of Lum the Mad and Shuruppak's Plate. Korgan has godly Saves (Dwarven and Halfling Warriors have the very best), more hitpoints, and the ability to Berserk--and more proficiency points in one-handed weapons. Sarevok, however, can Dual, and his Deathbringer Assault is essentially a Vorpal Hit, even on creatures that are immune to Vorpal.

I'd rank Sarevok as being second only to Korgan, overall. But man, is it close.
