Actually, I don't think I've ever had a bad side affect of a Wild Surge. Seriously, the only thing mine does is cast heal with an area effect, or double damage to an enemy. But the two or three best I've ever had was with NRD along with Chromatic Orb, sounds like a waste I know, but I ended up electrocuting everyone in the area. Two others was a cow dropping onto someone's head, and my favorite... hit points doubled

I haven't played as a wild mage very long, but here's couple of insidents a had in the slaver compound, IIRC.

First I try to cast haste upon my party members and I get Fireball. Two of party died (including the mage who cast the spell ).
Secondly I try to cast Fireball through Reckless Dweomer and get No save vs. Spell.

My favorite Wild surges:
One time I was prepping for a big battle; while casting improved Invisibility on Keldorn I got a surge: Roll twice : Double hitpoints (on Keldorn, bringing him to over 250) + strengthened (strength upped to 23). That's probably one of my favorite surges that I've gotten.

Another time I was fighting in the beholder lair, Using my last nahals to try to cast a horrid wilting against a elder orb; I didn't get the wilting to come out, but I got: I feel refreshed. I then proceeded to cast a sunfire and kill it.

My funniest surges are all instances where I'm winning and I get "sex changed", or I'm about to kill a boss with a spell trigger and when I fire it, i get "wild surge: entangled". One Time I was fighting a mess of golems and I cast a project image, wild surge: area effect. My whole party was projected, it was sooo cool. Unfortunately, so were the golems

Actually, that would have had no negative effect at all: Projected Images have NO physical attacks, so a Projected Golem can do precisely diddly-squat: The original is Held in place while the Image runs around casting spells. This is why you've never seen Dundee extol the merits of Project Image->Tenser's Transformation.

In that instance, I would have a ball: While the Golem Images are running around trying to hit people, just have the Image of one of your spellcasters cast a spell to deal a small amount of damage to every one of your party members. Yes, hurt your own party members. Not a lot, just enough to dispel their Images so they (the real party members) can attack. Now that you've got your Tanks back, you are free to take out the Golems--one by one, at your leisure--while your casters can freely use up every spell they've got, since they'll get them all back once the Image wears off.

One of my worst nicked all my cash, dropped tons of cows on my head, and changed my guy into a girl!!!
Gave up after that, as spells always went wrong in major fights, and he died.
Like th hiccuping one though....
