The problem is you either have enough magic-users with a wide variety of spells to kill him elementaly, or you have enough tanks to hurt him fast enogh with physical damage. A solo monk has neither.

I am using the Ascension patch, so I was finaly able to kill the demon by using the Ravager Form which does 8 cold damage per hit. Took awhile for fire demon to come around, but when it did he only took 2 greater whirlwinds.

Might be worth bearing in mind for other soloers using this patch.

I downloaded ascension a little while back and when ever I turned into the ravager my HP dropped from over 200 to under 50 does your HP drop?

From 144 to 44. Dosent matter in this case because the fight is over in 2 rounds, and if you need you can always drink another Potion oF Superior Healing. Of course, if you happen to lose control of the ravager at the crucial instant, youre screwed but from what ive seen control seems to return quite quickly.

Andrewas,

Your monk CAN use mage wands though ... that gives you access to fireball and agannazzar's scorcher from the wand of fire and will allow you to damage his ice form, not to mention electrical damage from the wand of lightning, or cold damage from the wand of frost. Plus the monk can use short swords and ninja-to's, and there are varieties of those that can do poison damage.

I got this cheesy solution from somebody else, so don't blame me thank him.

Lure the demon into the poison room and lock the doors behind him. I had to open up and run in a couple of times to trigger the poison mist again, but it wore him down after a couple of minutes. Only two problems: you don't get the experience for the kill..and you have to live with your conscience.
It helped that my monk has 100% immunity to poison, but if you don't hang around long you should be OK.

Had this same thought - stayed in there with him since a monk is immune to poison - no effect, although he did show a damage animation, nothing showed up in the text display, and he stayed at undamaged.

@Micah - Yes a monk can use Mage Wands. Problem with that is I forgot to recharge them, and for some reason the only wand I have left (lightning) refuses to fire. And I doubt I can stay alive long enough as a monk to kill the demon with +1 elemental damge or something. Besides, my rep was climbing too high anyway.

With this wand you get 6 bolts. You have to click more than once. (The little magic arrow has a number down on its lower left corner; the number starts at 6 and counts down to 1. If you click twice in a row on a single foe, all remaining bolts are directed at that foe.) It's a VERY powerful wand, as you get 6 chances to hit per charge!

I guess I got lucky.... I did Watcher's Keep at just about the end and everyone was around level 30 Sarevok, Minsc, and my Paladin just pounded him (Greater Whirlwind is so unfair) and Jaheria summoned a fire elemental, which I guess finished the deal (that part was an accident... it just worked out that my standards strategy with every boss is to summon a Deva or Planetar, and one of the Greater Elementals). Beat him first try in less than 30 seconds...

Its also worth not releasing him until he is in a form you can damage easily. This is mild cheese, but helpful and not all that unrealistic considering you find the notes around basically telling you how to kill him. So I had a lot of fire spells memorised. I released him when he was in ice form and he went down to "Injured" before he had changed again. Jan, Edwin, and a PC Bard throwing fire spells altogether can really take their toll. Then finish him off with tanks. It doesn't kill him but it does help quite a lot.
