here you go:

IWLIITGWBOMSALS = I would love it if this game would be on my side at least sometimes. (I donīt think thatīll become well known phrase though).

Anyway, sorry for bringing a dead topic up but this is an interesting fight. Lemme go again: I used the standard line-up, they had 60-65000 xpoints, Jaheira had less of course.

Minsc (Battleaxe +2 & Ashideena)
Jaheira (Sling & stones +2)
Khalid (Spiderīs Bane, Cloud Giant Strength)
Dynaheir (Anz. Scorcher, Wand of Frost, Blur)
Imoen (Short Sword +2, Arrows of Biting)
Ranger (Bastard +1, and healing)

And did it this way..

Bless
Haste
Protection From Evil

And the first try succeeded. In fact, the most difficult fight Iīve had was against that assasin at the stairs of Friendly Arm Inn. What were the makers of this game thinking when putting a powerful mage against 1st level hero-wannabes? When I got there, I immediately realised my changes were non-existant. It took me 3 hours to get past him alive, and I was about to give up the whole game. I managed to escape to the inn itself, and came back with Khalid and Jaheira, and fought another 3 or so hours until it somehow happened. I almost burst into tears. And of course, I didnīt happen to find Xzar and Montaron on that game.

I've had this problem from time to time aswell, my biggest problem was his cause fear spell - my PC and Imoen would just wander 'round waiting to get picked off by his magic missiles or something.
The strategy I found best was to keep Immy away from the fight to start with and get her to plug away at him with the wand of magic missiles and her shortbow while the bad guy ran around trying to nail my PC. Still took a few re-loads but got there in the end

That Friendly Arm in Fight was a pisser for me, especially his combo of horror and magic missles.

Heh, it is rather funny when I think about it. My character, after finishing ToB could just walk up to that mage at the FAI and kill him with just a flick of his finger. Poke em in the eye and kill him dead.

When tackling the house in Baldurs Gate use haste, summon monsters from a wand (faster) use wands of the heavens, frost, or fire (A's scorcher) and missiles. Keep summoning new monsters when your screen gets killed off. This also works in part two ( after you talk to mage)

When attacking the mage at Friendly Arms Inn try to time your attack so that you hit him just when he is about to cast his mirror image - if he does not get that spell cast he goes down reasonably easy. Otherwise wait until there are several of the local guards nearby - they will attack the mage and aren't affeckted by his horror

The tactic i always use is to cast "summon monster" or whatever it is called, the wands are really great, just make sure that you get the summoned monster between you and the enemy and then you can do watever you want without getting attacked

Gee, how many times do I need to say things....all fights are made 100% easier if you cast the usual buffer spells,,,,and I didn't struggle with that Friendly Arm Fight at all...Montoran had a bow...he he, no spells for you!!!
