To me that sounds like playing the game as a good guy and just pretending to be evil,
No, it's like playing the game with an evil guy who pretends to be good.

IMO an evil character wouldnt go about doing any do gooder quests, instead just maiming and robbing without giving a care for his reputation.
Why? Being evil doesn't mean one is stupid. In some situations it is simply easier to be a good guy. If you, for example, want to purchase some robes worn by an ancient lich-king who has since ascended to goodhood, and can't quite afford it, you have several options available.

You could just kill the woman trying to sell the robe, kill the witnesses, including a retired adventurer who lived until he could afford to retire and an amnish guard. Then you could kill the other amnish guards that have probably heard the screams by this point and are coming to see what's it about. Then you could kill the backup they summon. Then you could kill the rest of the Amnish army. Then you could kill the cowled wizards. Then you could kill all the paladins. And the churches.

*OR* you could do a few good deeds and make sure everyone sees them, whip up a fairy tale of how you need to save the multiverse from a certain doom and recieve a discount.

Agreed, a Dwarven Fighter might not be the most sophisticated villain possible. But they do exist.

Hmmm... you make a good argument, I guess my point is If I play through the series with an evil character I make 'em as evil as possible tending to slaughter innocents and do all the evil related quests, all the while following the main quest looking for rewards.

Whereas If I'm playing a Good character (on the rare occaision that I do ) I'll go about the game in an entirely opposite style

Hey maybe I'm just an extremist

Donating to Temples is the easiest way.

The Amnish Guards encounters will cease once your Reputation hits 4 and above.

but when your rep hits rock bottom at 1 then you cannot converse as even the priests are hostile. If there is a way to get them none hostile then that would be the answer unless there is another way.

Hostile? As in Red-Circled?

Need clarification here.

the manual says, and i have always found, once your reputation gets as low as it can you cannot converse as all players besides the protagonist have the red cicle around them. I would believe this includes priests at temples but i could be wrong.

Is it possible to raise the reputation past this point?

When my last evil character emerged from the Underdark, his reputation was one. The temple of Helm still accepted my money. Are all the priest hostile? Did you check all the temples?
