I like the spear idea as well... but maybe still keep it limited to only a couple weapons.

Spears are not too bad in Baldur's Gate 2 but certainly not a favorable weapon when it comes to "what's the best weapon in the game". In my opinion, and to the best of my knowledge, the emphasis is put on swords, not spears, when it comes to Baldur's Gate 2 weaponry. This does not mean there aren't any decent spears, however, but to say Halcyon trumps Celestial Fury? Nah.
Take a look at Gambanshee's Weapons directory to get a good view on which weapons are available throughout Baldur's Gate 2 and Throne of Bhaal.

On a different issue: Andyr mentioned Talos favored the short spear, which in truth is a totally different weapon than the long spear we know from BG2. I therefore doubt it is appropriate to switch the limit from mace to spear.

I don't think that the kit should limit use to only a single weapon. Try coming up with a tight knit group of weapons to be used.

Also, by limiting use to a single weapon, you are kinda screwing the player, who is expecting or wanting to be able to make some choices regarding character development. I realize that BG2 is not 3e with the seemingly unlimited choices for development. But to only allow the use of a single type of weapon is just *too* limiting.

How about Stormwarrior instead of Stormfighter?

I can't really see our protagonist running around with racial enemy: stormcloud waving his sword in the air demanding the stormclouds dissipate.

Maybe the character could gain temporary bonus HP whenever s/he is struck by lightning?

Well I don't think a limitation to one weapon only will be such a great burden on the player. Ask yourself how much you actually change *weapons* (not counting different types of two-handed swords and the likes). Plus, for roleplaying reasons a weapon restriction would actually make a lot of sense. As a devoted fighter for your deity you would never allow yourself to be associated with a weapon other than the one your favored deity uses, would you?

Link, I disagree. Do all Lathanderites only use maces? I doubt it.

I just don't buy it. Besides, "favored" weapon is not the same thing as saying that it's the only weapon you can ever use. That's just plain silly.

Maybe if you could somehow add a THACO bonus or something if you use the 'favored' weapon?
