it may also be a low level cleric spell.

there are crossovers - animate dead is a good example.

I had in mind those two Beholders in Underdark, when you need to collect the eye of 'noble race', I know that it's not a common thing to get jumped on by 2 Beholders, but that happens in that said moment. Neither do I want to say that beholders should not have such neat Rays, if I wanted that I would go to the Difficult Slider in the Options. Actually, Beholders are probably the only foe in BG II that make me anxious during the fight, I think they are a rather respectable enemy. So I think that wearing the cloack of cheese and the S.o.B. are not a fair way to fight them.
Well, when it comes down to scouting, indeed you guys are right, it's obvious that a experienced party would do it more often than imaginable. And I usually do it too, but not realistically, however, is BG II when we 'must gather our party before venturing forward', and considering that I had mind that singular moment where you must collect the eye of a beholder it's quite fair to think that my party would not imagine to find an Elder Beholder just after they decide to grab the eye of it.
I think it's quite simple, I just don't feel too inclined to buff up, but fighting Beholders without buffs is a matter of luck. And it would be expected that a group of adventurers would get very ready before fightinhg a creature like a Beholder. Your thoughts were very apreciated, thx, later.

p.s. Holy crap! I'm still half drunk from the last night... hm... beeeer.~~

There is one buff that cannot be dispelled by the Anti-Magic Rays (well, other than Spell Shield), and the funny thing is is that that one spell renders all Beholderkin essentially harmless, excepting of course that nasty Imprisonment. Even Tactics Beholders are still a walk in the park--the only difference is that now you'll need an anti-Poison item too. Oh dear.

What is this wonderful spell, you ask? Well, Nalia and Edwin both know it from the moment you recruit them, and I think Imoen and Jan do too, but Aerie does not.

Is this a fair way to treat Beholders? Not really--but then again, Tactics Beholders aren't exactly fair with me either. I have never purchased the Shield of Balduran, and I think I only wore the Cloak of Mirroring on my first game with it.

Thinking of Polymorph Self? MGoI can be dispelled and doesn't shield you from Cause Serious Wounds, but morphing into a Mustard Jelly would counter everything but Imprisonment.

Has anyone tried if Spell Turning could be used against Beholders? It's supposed to be undispellable (by magical means anyway), and if it is still active when the Beholder's "If Reflect Then Melee Attack" script activates, it should work.
