Anomen - He's a good tank and strong cleric spells. He is also very strong vs undead. As he gains power, he will literally blast many of the undead out of existence. Very good to have against Vampires and Liches.

Jaheira - A better tank than Anomen since she keeps gaining levels as a fighter. Insect plague turns enemy spellcasters into little more than target practice. She also gets very strong HLA's from both classes. Extremely strong character but very, very hard to romance.

Aerie - Mega-spellcaster and has the potential to be one of the most powerful characters in the game. Full selection of mage spells AND cleric spells gives you the best of both worlds.

@ElfBane
SPOILERS

i found aerie's romance to be the easiest. you just do the loving support thing, don't have sex with her and it's all good.

now Viconia and Jaheira, that's a different matter.

Well now,,, let's see, It Is Extremely Difficult To Resist A Willing Female. That is why humans have supplanted the Elves. Also I believe that the "sleep with Aerie" lovetalk was designed to tease the player into sleeping with her, just so you would inevitably lose her, because once you sleep with her,,,, THERE IS NO WAY TO GET HER TO STAY IN THE PARTY,, no matter which dialog choices you make in the future(AFAIK). That is why I warned to NOT romance her.

She doesn't leave the party if you sleep with her.

Aerie just ends the romance, saying that things are moving too fast, or something like that.

ElfBane, if you find it that hard to resist a whiny little girl who can't be independant, may i suggest you find a girlfriend?

j/k

and the lovetalk, IIRC, goes something like "i think i'm ready, i'm not sure though, but i'll sleep with you if you want"
not exactly tempting.

Yes the Ease-of-Use-Mod (WEIDu) inplants the multiple stronholds, this can be installed any time in the game, but its recommended to install it when you begin a new game ( example: if you already finished the Planar Sphere quest it isn't possible to get that as stronghold because you finished it and the end-talk has already passed with valygar )

About your new PC, try going kensai it gives you a agile fighting machine, let him get master in long swords and you have a tank!

Ok, here's the deal,,,,.... Jaheira for a tank( thou I don't think she is as good as Xen sez). Or Aerie as a VERY AWESOME spellcaster about midway thru to the end. The ability to cast cleric and mage spells is very powerfull. I don't know if Black Isle realized this, but Aerie, properly developed, is very overpowered. The catch is,,(of course, you knew there would be a catch),, is to keep her in the party. DO NOT ROMANCE HER,,, it is extremely difficult to romance her AND keep her happy. And when she gets pissed, she leaves... and you can't get her back until ToB starts.
Here`s the deal: Jaheira is the best tank in the game. The main reason for this is Ironskins. (Other buffs are also included) But where Keldorn, Korgan or anyone else gets hit, he suffers about 20+ dmg. (Playing on Insane) Few hits later they`re six feet under the ground. Jaheira on the other hand can laugh at her opponent becuase her Ironskins absorb all the dmg not her. So basically can`t be hit. But the real problem is that you need a Cleric if you are to have Jaheira in your party. Level 5 spells are very important. (Insect`s Plague, Chaotic Commands) Jaheira needs those Ironskins for tanking. With another Cleric in your party he/she can buff Jaheira with Chaotic Commands, Champion`s Strenght, Death Ward while she has Ironskins in every slot. (Well maybe not every but more she has the better she can tank) Also he does a great job with Mace of Disruption or Sling.

ADD: Aerie can also tank. On later levels of course but she can take down the Watcher`s Keep boss (TOB) in 1v1 battle.

ADD #2: Hear`Dalis can be your second Tank.

My idal party would be:
PC - Sorcerer (protector, destroyer, minor buffer)
Jaheira - tank numero uno.
Hear`Dalis - tank numero duo.
Keldorn - flank attacker and a Crossbow master.
Aerie - another spellcaster. Backup Mage. (More offensive fireworks)
Anomen - he is party`s number one buffer. Also he is a better Cleric then Viconia.

BG II: Throne of Bhaal Game Features

Baldur’s Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, the expansion pack to Shadows of Amn, draws the Child of Bhaal saga to its dramatic conclusion. With 30-50 hours of gameplay, 80 new areas spread across a dozen adventure areas, 50 powerful new spells, 40 new monsters, and 100 mysterious new items to discover, Throne of Bhaal is one massive expansion pack. There are even 2 parts to the game - the continuing Bhaal storyline as well as the completely optional (and massive) dungeon of Watcher’s Keep.
ToB adds features, such as the Wild Mage, and pressing the TAB button to highlight containers (very handy!).

Also, ToB fixes all the bugs listed on this page:
