i play on core rules and switch to normal for HPs on level ups - it can be notable how much easier the next fight is if you forget to put it back up though so i can imagine where the insane advocates are coming from

I never change my difficulty level - don't have enough time on my hands to bother with a higher difficulty.

Core rules, just like everything I play, I'dlike to have it the standard rules of my game. I play with Tactics, but only those parts that I consider MORE fun instead of merely having to resort to cheese to be able to win.

Core. With power word reload to get max HP on level up for main PC only.

Insane but without Tactics. Contemplating installing Tactics because the challenge has waned. I'd be curious to hear how those who are more experienced but play on non-insane difficulty without difficulty-enhancing mods make the game fun for themselves. The post that really caught my eye was SixOfSpades' (who knows the game fifty times better than I ever will).

Simple, trying new character concepts till you are really out of options. I've played the game about 20 times now and still haven't had everything...

What's the difference between Core Rules and Normal?

I played 1 step below Hard (is that core or normal???) awhile ago. Then I moved up to hard, and now I've moved up to insane on a solo sorceror. The mods I have installed are:

Tactics
Ascension (redemption was installed up till my last game, but I tried to update it and it got messed up, so I left it out)
Ease of Use
Items Upgrade
Unfinished Business
Rogue Rebalancing

Not sure if I missed any, but I think I got it all.
