Gorion isn't invincible.....he has a somewhat reasonable AC, which means he can be hit. The trick is to deal enough damage to kill him before he casts his Lightning, because it's special Lightning: It's instant death for your PC, no matter where he is. (On the other side of a wall, in Winthrop's Inn, the top of Durlag's Tower, the temple of Bhall, etc.)

True, I used A Flesh To Stone Spell, Then Cracked Him On The Head....

I once tried pitting Drizzt and Elminster, respectively, against Gorion. Then I used some hacked characters of my own. Gorion has an ungodly number of HP but otherwise he isn't all that tough (Elminster's another story, though.) I have yet to play an evil party, but I suppose killing Gorion right at the outset would be a fitting wat to start out, eh? (Note: I tested this also: you can leave Candlekeep after killing Gorion with the MoveToArea cheat and it doesn't seem to affect the development of the story at all. You skip Gorion's battle with Sarevok, but it doesn't matter.)
