Interesting topic this, killing Drizzt! I have done it using detonation arrows and running around like crazy to avoid being struck by him.

He is alsmost immune to spells, but sometimes you'll get lucky! I once succeeded in putting a hold person spell on him, and from there it was easy game.

Horribly cheesey tactic alert!

Summon skeletons and surrond him. Get everyone out of sight except one person with some kind of stealth function (Boots of Speed, Oil of Speed, you get the picture). The one person should be just on the edge of Drizzt's fog of war, so you can only just see him. Order all of the skeletons to attack and as you do so move the one person out of the way (you need him there to order them as otherwise you lose control of the skeletons). As long as no one in your party moves in sight of Drizzt he won't attack the skeletons, so after a few minutes he dies quite horribly.

Note - even if you move a stealthed or invisible character toward him he will start attacking the skeletons. This is more to do with the crap AI on BG1 than anything else really.

But yeah, why would you want to? I did it but it makes the game a bit easy really. And it isn't much in the way of roleplaying. It might be worth it right at the end of the game just for a laugh.

That's BG2. You can travel through all of Baldur's Gate and the Sword Coast with his equipment.

Nope! Really, Drizzt is so powerful that any tactic that begins to approach 'fairness' is tantamount to suicide. As soon as any member of your party gets within melee range of the guy, you suddenly have a slot open for a new party member. Taking advantage of the cheap AI is really the only way to go. And forget about offensive spells--he's got 98% Magic Resistance of something, although I actually got lucky with a Slow spell the first time I tried to take him.

This is a cheesy way to do it, but it will work no casualties:

1) Except for a mage or cleric send all of your party to the island on the adjoining lake and equip them with bows or wands.

2) Give the cleric or mage the boots of speed or, at the appropriate time, haste the character. If you have a potion of invisibility give it to him. If the cleric or mage is a thief, the he can stealth instead but see (4) below.

3) In the stand of trees just to the south of where the gnolls/encounter with Drizzt is, have the cleric or mage summon a couple gangs of skeletons or monsters. If a thief, stealth the character.

4) Have the cleric or mage approach Drizzt with his posse of monsters or skellies. Make Drizzt hostile. If you have a potion of invisibility take it now. If you have a cleric-thief or mage-thief have a skeleton or monster attack him and remain stealthed. Then simply move your gang of skellies or monsters with you and lure Drizzt over to the edge of the lake within range of your party's bows. It is a deficiency of the AI but Drizzt will simply stand there as you turn him into a pin cushion with your arrows.

(Note: if you don't have a monster or skeleton summoning ability, or stealth, or invisibity, you could sacrifice a character by having him attack Drizzt and run like hell over to the edge of the lake. Drizzt will tear him to shreds, of course, but you could ressurect him at a temple.)

Thus I'll make it my duty to take him out in fair combat. I won't use summoned monsters, the lake, or anything blocking him besides my warriors in combat. I'm sure he's beatable, I'll report back later =)

Drizzt is a level 16, male, ranger, Chaotic good, Drow Elf. He wields 2 scimitars of +2 or 3 and Chainmail +4 and runs INCREDIBALLY fast. He has 99% stealth and 98% magic resistance. If you somehow get the notion to attack him you will be reloading with about 10 seconds.

----ATTACK DRIZZT DO'URDEN AT YOUR OWN RISK, PROCEED WITH CAUTION----

Im on him right now, on average, how many attempts at using algernons cloak on him, would it take to actually work?

Oh yeah, umm, how many hitpoitns does he have? Im trying melee combat, and I hit him atleast 50 times, and he still aint dead, it is paused right now.

YAY!!! I just killed him , in REGULAR melee combat, I used Montaorn lvl 4/3. I used Xzar, lvl 4 (not spells, melee) and I used Slakl, lvl 5 thief. I had Edwin, but I didnt use him.

Oh yeah, before I killed him, I tried pickpocketing before he died, you can get Frostband without attacking him.

Beat that, low level party, no warriors, used only thiefs and mages, no cheesy tactic, magic, or bows. Go ahead and try and beat that.
