But you can convert the thief from BG1 into a Bountyhunter when you import him to SoA.

that last trap is called the Exploding Trap. i think it does something like 10d10, but it does that to all the enemies caught in the area of effect.

I think the best character is the one you feel like playing. Certainly, one could plan ahead and plot out a course as to what would be most tactically advantageous, but the point of role playing is to be whoever it is you want to be, or at least that's my thought on that. When you take is like this, it's more like being tossed into life- you don't get to pick and choose who you are.
On the other hand, is is sort of fun to have a very powerful character sometimes. Anyway, I tend towards picking whatever I feel like playing and then making the best of it.

Thanks Lord Arlion. Welcome to, haven't geeted you yet. Yes its really your choice, but I'm just givin you a general idea of the classes. If you want the ideal knight, be a paladin then (SPOILER) be the cavalier(

I only have BG1, but the best bang for the buck IMO is a gnome illusionist/thief. The primary reason for this is the specialization bonus spell per spell level. I also maxed out pick locks, so I was able to get the 1000gp gem right from the start (a few import/exports basically means ALOT of early money). Also, in BG1, illusionists are bared only from using necro magic, so fireballs/lightning bolts where memmable.

The funny thing is, by about have way thru the game, I seldom used offensive magic at all, and just hacked things to death or used my main char to sneak backstab most of the mobs. I prefer to go heavier on the healing, which is why I used 2 clerics (that and animate dead).

I enlisted the following NPCs: Ajantis, Coran, Yeslick, Branwen, Garrick. I found that Minsc isn't really worth the upkeep, and I loved the abilities of the paladin better. Coran is just plain nuts, and should be a staple member in any group. At 7th level, I was able to get him to a THAC0 of about 5 using the bow of marksmanship. The sad thing about the bard though, was that he rarely was useful beyond being able to ID all but cursed items. I really like bards, but BG1 didn't really make them all that useful. Let's hope they got a bit better in BG2 .

Bards do get better, and god knows they should, because they just plain suck in BG1. The only class that I think is worse than Bard is a pure-class Druid. But in BG2, you finally find Elven Chainmail, and you get to pick a kit for your Bard (Jester, Skald, Swashbuckler), so he can actually DO stuff. Do I sound a bit negative in this post?

I gotta agree with Katherine. Picking a character based upon items that you, under normal circumstances, would have no knowledge of, is to me the same thing as using an editor to pump her up to 25s down the ability chart. I've had great fun being a straight-up, no-nonsense fighter, and bringing him into BG2, but playing a character a set way for BG1 only because of what could then happen in BG2... well, why play BG1, then?

Even though they run in series, unless you've played them nine times and are seeing just how much you can squeeze from teh game, I'd say you'll get more out of it playing each game for its own sake.

Its down to the character you want to play. If you play a Mage, you pad out you team with Fighters & vice versa. theres enough there to be flexible.

Here again!hehe....

Thanks Drizzt!

You know,it is a idiotisk question actualy you are asking....There is no sutch thing as an perfect character!if you want an REALY good character, just cheat! then you got 25 in all abilities and can get all the spells you want even as an warrior....you know what? think about why you are playing! do you want to play for fun or to compleat it......

no matter whtich character you are choosing, you will be abel to complet the game.....no dout!

i myself is an mage entusiast, but i have played the game trough whit bard mage cleric warrior ranger etc....and it wasnt realy no problem! just pick the class you like....

but in bg1 it is not many priest you can get into your party....so if i should give you any tips, try to be an cleric HUMAN and then dual class when you are on 8 level....then play whit the caracter in bg2.....thats funn! but then, thats my stupid oppinion..... hehe!

Have fun whit the game! And enjoy it! Because it is the best Game you will ever play on a computer....!!!!!! even better than bg2! even if the graf. in bg2 is better, more spells and on and on......its just Baldurs Gate 1!!!!!!!!!!

want an even better tips?! read soulforge and brothers in arm.....thats good reading
