i dn't belive its an enchantment spell is it?

but the easiest tactic, if you can cast the one needed spell.

gt a preist with a level 7 spell, fill it with gate, chaotic command them, and protect them from evil. get party to stand a long way away. open door, caste gate, laugh.

i liked this tactic as i could run off and get a drink wilste the little pit fiend finished the flayers off

Well thanks guys, I tried out the above tactics and they have worked. I have also successfully managed to get a circlet on the head of a Ithilid. Hopefully i can now escape

Hmmm. I have come to a second door that says itr needs a Godly strength or a great mind. I am reluctant to change into the slayer again due to the reputation decrease. I have in my control a Inthilid, but there is no option for him to open the door when i move him. how do i open the door with him?

In my experience, you can just have him in your party (being dominated and all) and take your party and the Illithid near the door, and just try to open it with one of you party members with the Illithid around. Watch out though, cause sometimes the domination wears off, or it is dispelled/whatever, when they open the door.

Ah i see what the matter is. you cannot use ithilids to open the door. ONLY mind flayers. I located one i had not destroyed and tried to use it. It worked. Thanks you anyways.

underdark and in the place where the mind flayers hold you captive. I have two questions concerning this.

1. There is a door which says it can only be "opened by some godly might". Is there any other way to open this door thsn to shapeshift into the slayer?

2. How do I then go on to defeat those damned flayers. they are a dawdle when on their own, but i am facing a specific room with 4 Flayers and about four Ugar Hulks (spelling?). I have tried using summons and i have managed to get a few down, although this was only once. The killer spell that gets me is the stun spell that seems to stun people in an area. It sucks.

If its any help, here is my team.

1. MY CHARACTER (PALADIN)
2. MINSC
3. JAHERIA
4. AERIE
5. NALIA
6. IMOEN

Most of them are levels 12-14 (save for Imoen for obvious reasons)

Top three are tanks. Bottom three are spell whizzes.

P.S Did i mention i hate mind flayers?
as for the door...

there are two ways of openning them without becoming a slayer... they are similar..

1) If you are somehow protected from the Mind Flayer's chaotic attacks (two possible ways: chaotic commands priest spell of Greenstone amulet) you can attract one of them to the door... I will open instantly

2) You know the engine wich is keeping a buncha fellows sleeping? (Alms, Alms for the poor?) Well you go there, click on the engine and you will get from it a Circlet. Identify it and use it against a mind flayer. It will be dominated. There, you can use it to open the doors...

Rather easy =]
cya

Edit: Three possible ways... you can also make potions to protect yourself against the chaotics... but thats the worst way, it works for a too short time

Mindflayers are a pain, but there are tactics that make dealing with them easier.

1. Chaotic Commands is a must.

2. Have some Potions of Genius or of Mind Focusing ready. Both add INT and will act as "INT healing potions" if your characters take any INT drain hits.

3. Animate Dead skeletons are nice, since they are immune to MF psionic attacks, but they are a bit fragile.

4. Mordenkainen's Sword is the ultimate summons for dealing with mindflayers. They are totally immune to MF psionic attacks and do excellent damage.

5. My experience was that it is best to go in with 2 tanks and your summons, when meleeing with MF's. That way, if and when one of your tanks takes some serious INT drain damage, you can pull that tank out of melee and leave the other to hole the line. INT drain damage is very temporary.
