No you don't. You get the helm in the starter dungeon. Do you mean the helm of glory, for the temple quest with ore man?

The items I can understand - what with the nature of the start of BGII, what I don't understand is the approach to memorized spells. Absolutely no point learning these things if you fail to get them again later on. Very annoying.

Huh. Okay, so I'm just an uneducated BG1er who's going around making assumptions like "The Helm of Balduran is so cool, I'll bet you have to go find it again." At least I was right about the Helm being available, though.

Oh, Legolas: You said "BG1 sound files are now incomplete." What do you mean, exactly?

You must be jking about the spells, is it all the spells in your spell book or just the ones you had memorized ready for use coz im taken through the first player i ever made on BG1 right through and he's a fighter/mage (multi, not dualed) and i built up a great collection of spells i'll be shattered if they all disapear

If you wish, you can easily carry items from BG1/Tales into BG2 with the following cheat:

1) Copy the .chr file (or files) in question from the BG1 Characters folder to the BG2 Characters folder.
2) Start up a new BG2 game but save immediately after the opening sequence.
3) Reopen that saved BG2 game and import the character(s) into that game.

That simple. They will appear with all their gear.

However, once you have played even a little bit of Bg2 you will see that it would be a mistake to do this. It really would make the game too easy. The gameplay will be much better if you follow the plot and start BG2 without your BG1 equipment.

dex_man, in the beginning of the game for SoA, you can choose a limited number of spells to memorize for the game. They are somewhat lenient

To be honest SecretMaster, I'm with dex_man on this one. A certain number of the spells from BG can only be obtained the hard way. As such, you feel (justifiably) proud to have earned, and be able to use these spells, later in the game.

There is a fair number of scrolls for you to discover early on in BGII, but why bother relearning them? Just give me the ones I've worked bloody hard to achieve in the first place, thank you very much! Otherwise, what really is the point of having continuity between the two games? As it is, you're not left with any spells that you may have memorized (and probably used already) which is how it should be. Any self-respecting P&Per knows that a mage's spellbook is his/her/its lifeblood. So if they confiscate your armour, why didn't they take that too?

Well, Brass, it is good they take away ur spells. Remember that in BGII, for the level of the spell you learn, you get that amout of XP, so i learn a level 5 spell, i get 5000 xp. and plus, the mage doesn't intend for ur escape. And it would just ruin the game if they took the mage book away.

Personally, I think it's silly that EVERYTHING is stripped from your character. I mean, come on, you want to take my Antidotes? And my Butter Knife of Balduran? If I were writing this game, I wouldn't make any changes to spellbooks at all--I'd simply put the opening dungeon inside an anti-magic field, or similarly prohibit spellcasting until they get outside.

I personally would resent having all my items taken, because of all the care I've taken to make sure ALL my characters were equipped just right. My Fighter->Cleric has the Claw of Kazgaroth, so the Cloak of Displacement can go to my Mage/Thief, who then needs one of my Rings of Protection +2.....do I really need the Gauntlets of Ogre Power for the guy whose STR is 162)? You see what I mean, I've really gone though all the items available to me in BG1, thought ahead, and customized these guys to the HILT. And then I start BG2, all that gets ripped from me, and I feel cheated. So I think what I'll do (On my first game, anyway) is follow Sir Jorlon's demi-cheat, and allow each character to keep ONE item. That way, I get to keep at least part of my planning.

The Same Question, Posed Again: I heard a rumor that yes, your equipment gets taken from you, but you can find it again very soon, IF you know where to look. For those of you who have been there, could you please let us know if there is any truth to this?

I sure hope there is a place six where you can get all your stuff back coz it'd make sense that if they locked you up sumwhere that they'd have to shove all your belonging somewhere as well?

Im still disapointed about the mage spells, i dont care if they are lenient to what spells i can mezmorise, i want my old spells i choose each one for a specific purpose and I always had them ready for the right situations (i.e. charm for when stealing goes bad), but the point is when i heard that i lose everything I was really disapointed that the programmers didnt take players coming straight from BG1 into full account, i mean the people who worked hard for their spells and are like brass said damn proud to have them, only to have them all riped away from you after all that hard work it jst aint right. Sorry for goin on i think i just needed to get that outta my system
