I have discussed this with my ffriends before, but as a multiplayer option. Imagine being able to do this with loads of variables, ie no of party members, equipment, diffirent classes, youcould have a whole multioplayer gladiator arena, where you would level up and gain weapons as prizes. why didn't black isle think of this, the mutiplayer game is a bit bland afterall

Because it's a Roleplaying Game. If you want multiplayer gladiatior arenas check out Rune. Personally I am glad that at least in this genre cooperative multiplayer survived. During our early LAN days my friends and me LOVED playing Doom or Duke3D cooperative. Why they don't put that into FPS nowadays is beyond me.
