• Flesh - Any +1 or better weapon.
 • Stone - Any +2 or better weapon. Casts Golem Slow.
 • Clay - Any +1 or better Blunt weapon. (Can also be hurt by any Elemental damaged attatched to the weapon, provided the damage does not check the target's Magic Resistance.) Casts Golem Haste.
 • Sand - I believe, any +2 or better weapon.
 • Juggernaut - Again, +2 or better, I believe. Casts either Golem Slow or Golem Haste....I wrote it down somewhere....
 • Iron - Any +3 or better weapon. Casts Gas Cloud (Poison).
 • Adamantite - Any +3 or better, but it takes a long time, due to their 90% Resistance to Physical damage. Casts Gas Cloud.
Watch out for Golems acting in concert! A Stone Golem on the front lines can cast Golem Slow repeatedly, which does nasty things to your ApR, as well as weakening your THAC0 and AC by 4--and it's cumulative. The nearby Golems won't be affected by the Golem Slow, as their MR will shrug it off--but it won't shrug off the Golem Haste cast by the Clay Golem in the back.

[ADD:] Oh yeah, attacking the Golems in the de'Arnise Keep singly (before they turn Hostile because you took the items) makes roleplaying sense if and only if you have Nalia in your party, to tell you what the Golems are programmed to do.

An adventurer's natural reaction when he/she sees a golem of any type:"Cool! More XP!" ... and proceeds with the ass kicking ....

That's all well and good, but I don't think characters are actually 'aware' of their Experience Points. That is, if you were roleplaying, you wouldn't say something like 'More XP', because you character doesn't realise that he is under a set of rules which define his growth.

Through combat, adventurers grow more powerful, they certainly are aware of that. Experience is measured in points for our sake, but experience for adventurers is .... experience just without a point-based system. Defeat a golem, and your muscles will enhance, your wisdom will grow, your technique will improve, etc. There is benefit to be gained by defeating golems, so adventurers will certainly seize the opportunity...

Possible role play without Nalia.

An evil or neutral character would want to trigger the golems on their own terms and not wait until some unknown act will trigger them (probably not at a convenient time). A good character will not take the loot to trigger them, only the item he was told could help.

Good doesn't mean dimwitted: when an adventurer sees such powerful loot, he WILL take it, no matter what! Or do claim to have left the items behind on occassion when you were playing good?!

There is a difference between clearing out someones keep of monsters and taking everything you see and taking loot from monsters in the sewers. At the keep you are taking from Nalia's family. Not something a lawful good person would do. I do not normally play "good", more neutral.

My paladin has not done the keep. When he does, he will not take what he doesn't need.
