How I handle it usually: have person with cloak of cheese engage elder orb, while everyone else uses some form of invisibility (invisibility 10' radius works here, but invisibility potions and spells are all fine). Run the rest of the party as quickly as possible further into the lair, outside of the site of the beholders. The invisibility will probably be dispelled, but you should clear their sight quickly enough. Turn around and send some summons back into the room. That should get your party out of harm's way, leaving the person with the cloak of cheese to handle them. Oh, and the elder orb has a one-time-use ability that is a real pain. Better to have it used on a summon instead of your character (i.e. as soon as party is clear, get away from it!).

yes you can, have everyone else sit at the front of the dungeon while you send one character through it. If you clear out the first part (which doesnt even need clearing IIRC), nothing should happen to the people just standing around

You find Tuigan on Beastmaster`s body during the Slavers quest. HiS should work.

Oh, boy......

Some facts:
  • You don't have to go in there in the first place.
  • Beholders (even Improved Beholders) cannot see through any form of Invisibility.
  • Stealth will not work too well in getting past the Beholders at the entrance, since traveling from 1 map to another will cause at least 1 character to Leave Shadows. Use Invisibility instead, it's more reliable.
  • Any character with a good THAC0, Saving Throws, and the Cloak of Cheese will make absolute mincemeat of normal Beholders.
Therefore, you should:
1) Cast Mass Invisibility, or Invisibility 10' Radius, or Pixie Dust, or something.
2) Turn off your Party AI, and enter the Southern Tunnels.
3) Have your Monk (and just your Monk!!!) start ass-kickin'.
4) Happy now? You should be.
5) If you're still not happy, that means you're an EXP hog, and your punishment is on the way....in the form of an Elder Orb.

alright Six, chill, man, keep breathing. I'm quite happy! :p HiS did work a little, btw, since only imoen and dron used it. And i do have to go there, as i MUST go everywhere possible! my insatiable curiosity will not allow me to pass it by. also, i know my monk with cloak of cheese can beat the crao out of beholders, thats how i survivedthe beholders before this, you know, the ones in the kuo toa lair.

well, i'm about to beat the living crap out of some beholders, so wish me luck!(don't need it, but it's a nice gesture.)

Later
