Bgtutu is yet in the bugtesting phase... There are certain weapon proficiency bugs, which do not allow any character to get any weapon bonuses. Furthermore, the thieving skills and scroll reading XP is rediculously high, allowing for lvl 5 or higher in the prologue and first chapters... But things are worked upon. v3. should deal with the weapon proficiencies.
