I thought Intelligence was the amount of spells you could cast from each level?

intelligence is the number of spells you can memorise of each level
and when i shouted memorise i, obviously, meant scribe

to clarify:

intelligence affects the number of spell scrolls you can scribe into each page (level) of your spellbook

sorry!

Yep. I think so too, Link. In fact I'm pretty sure. Alaina a has to go up a few more levels to finally do the big ones.

Well, at level 17, you should have 2 level 8 spell slots, but no level 9 ones.

A couple of things to check: look at your spellbook for level 8--do you have any spells scribed? If you haven't written any level 8 spells in your book, you obviously won't be able to use those slots.

If you still can't get your 2 level 8 spells, it's either some bug, or perhaps some intelligence rule that is enforced for your character, but not NPCs (what is your mage's INT?)

If you have your level 8 spells working, there are two options for getting level 9 slots. Either wait for your copy of ToB, at which time you'll be able to start leveling up again. Or if it's going to be awhile, you can download an XP cap remover (check the FAQ thread) that will allow you to keep leveling up in SoA.

You can use it but only from Scrolls. You cannot memorize it tough.
