I've only ever done that once... and man-o-man did I get my arse handed to me... If I remember correctly, I got so fustrated I cheated to win just so I could get the goods and leave. I'm trying without cheating this time through tho. I'm predicting the outcome won't be much different... :/

yeah...my first time around got slaughtered in the twisted rune.

now I only go in in chapter six, and react to the behavior pattern of those "things"...

take out the Beholder first (the most effective way to do so is to bean out 6-7 skull traps to the place it will show up), also cast a ADHW to the place Layene would show up (once she died instantly because her perfection spells weren't effective yet) and let summons to hang with Shangalar just long enough for the party to take out the annoying fighter and vampire. Finally concentrate on killing Shangalar since Layene moves quite slowly, especially more often than not she will need to fight with the pit fiend she herslef summons^^

well...with OC knowledge, it could be an easy fight (I don't know how to do it without any preparation though)

also, if you have ToB installed, this fight could be a cake walk (the spolier is in ToB fourm)
