I know, but everybody keeps telling me that they (X-bows) are too slow, even after I mention that I want Big Red (Wow, that sounded bad.)

Good night.

Crossbows are actually very good weapons--in BG2. (They suck in BG1.) Firetooth + Bolt of Lightning works just as well as Gesen + Arrow of Fire. True, there are no Ice Bolts or Acid Bolts, but Bolts of Biting are far more plentiful than Arrows of Biting. Add to this the amazing things known as Kou-Toa Bolts and Paralytic Bolts (with Tactics installed, I picked up almost six thousand Paralytic Bolts in one day).

Crossbows in general deal a lot more damage than Short Bows or Long Bows.

I'll admit Six, the only time I used Crossbows is when I picked up the Crossbow of Speed with the Paralytic Bolts, but with so many, they weigh characters down severely (especially with... six thousand bolts ).

With the Bottomless Bag of Holding, who cares? And even weaklings like Imoen and Jan can use them (even in stacks of 120), as long as you don't mind being a stationary gunning turret as opposed to a Stealth-&-Snipe fighter.

What I'm saying Six, is that when you tend to put all of them into a Bag of Holding, they tend to stack, though having a character fire from long range, having being weighed down like a rock may not be so bad

Another question: will Firetooth fire faster if used with regular bolts, like Gesen does (with arrows) or do the fireballs travel at the same speed as bolts?

Erm... Didn't someone do some kind of comparison that showed that Bows did, in fact, do more damage per round than Crossbows?

Jim and Dundee, IIRC.

Anyway, I'm not asking for damage, as I can find that information by myself I just wanted to know if Crossbow proficiency was worth taking.
