Listen. Spellcasters won't be in any melee battles that much, so ***** doesn't really help at all.
Rogues however, hide in shadows and backstab. But the stab must land to be worth the effort. Now for those who have solo'ed a rogue and rely heavily on backstab, you know how painful it is to just not be able to backstab properly. So rogues should get 3 stars in backstab weapons.

Or maybe something totally different, like a backstab proficiency or AC penalty for the target when backstabbed....

Ohh man that could be used to be so over balanced. Think of a scorcer who gets tired of disinigrating enemys and so goes and whacks them all for damage a normal fighter could deal...

Personally, I think it's a bit extreme. To be multiclassed in the first place means you're dividing your time equally between your studies. A fighter/mage/thief wouldn't really get as much sword practice in as would be necessary to achieve *****
Figure, he/she's studying magic, which usually requires a lot of time reading, rememorizing spells, researching, casting, recasting, committing to memory, and using two hands and a lot of intricate motions to get the desired effect. Not the kind of person who'd have a lot of free time to be swinging swords and learning to parry and thrust. He/she's also studying thievery, which means a lot of sneaking, practicing stealth, climbing, being nimble, picking locks, setting traps, diving, tumbling... Again, not really someone who's too familiar with swords. Maybe a little moreso than a mage, since a thief would need protection that he can't get from spells, but still not enough of his time would be devoted to swordplay so much as it would be devoted to 'defend myself long enough to get the hell out of the way.' Thiefs have the second worst THACO and HP advancement for a reason. And who's the worst overall? The mage... It's kind of like dual classing someone. Once you dual them over, you lose all your abilities, not because you forget them or whatever, but because you're now devoting all your time to studying something else. You can't get any better in what class you gave up because you stopped studying it. Once you get familiar enough with what you're new to, you get your old abilities back because now you don't have to concentrate as much on the new stuff, and the old abilities just kind of become second nature... instinctive almost. So I guess what I'm rambling about is that I'd not consider it cheating, but it's not very realistic either. It seems like it more geared towards overpowered characters, so if you like power, go for it.

What I find irritating is that you do not get the ApR bonus on Swashbucklers and Blades for specializing in weapons... Damn man! That REALLY blows, cause only 1 attack per round(or 2 with dual wielding) seriously BLOWS!
Ahh well, all of this complaining and arguing would not be here if BGII were THIRD edition! Away with stoopit rules like only good rangers! Multiclass balancing, finally lower ability scores than 15 do someting(else it wouldnt matter whether one score was 10 or 15, in 3rd edition, it does) Ahh, yes... it is so much better...
