Yeah, I had some nasty times with this as well. For some reason, all the Drow turned hostile if I left my party near the to the Temple. Now, I just move my entire party right up to the Egg Vault, and everything's groovy. Whether I kill the guards first or open the door first, the city stays Neutral to me.

It seems to me to be a matter of killing the egg guards before they yell "Protect the Eggs!", as that sends the city hostile. In my solo sorc game, I tried getting out of sight of the others, but they still turned hostile soon after the "Protect the Eggs!"... the easiest way I found of stopping that shout, was to kill them before opening the door.
Although the answer to this may be as computer dependant as "do summons stay summoned if you rest in another area?". |

The Drow door guard bug comes into effect after installing TOB - there's a fix on Baldurdash :
