Valen's not a bad choice... but very powerful. Thing is, I tried Valen, and found her a little too... disruptive for my tastes. A very active script that meant she still automatically detected for traps when I explicitly told her not to, and a very fast movement rate that made keeping the party together somewhat more of a challenge than before.
Besides, to really get the most out of Valen, I think you have to jump into Chapter 3 very very early. I'm already too far ahead for it to seem... natural, if that makes any sense. As for the Anti-Paladin: YES! It's overpowered! Because being Evil gives you so few breaks it's about time there was a benefit for it!

xEN
Yes, but Carsomyr is a magical weapon. I have never seen a mage cast Prot. from Magical Weapons and Prot. from Normal Weapons in a spell trigger. This means that your AP can simply switch to a non-magical weapon and dispel the PMW, and stoneskins in a single hit. The Holy Avenger and the Staff of the Magi will not be able to do this. IMHO this makes the AP very overpowered. |

BlackJack, take in note that a lot of creature's/bosses need a magical enchanted weapon to be hit, the dispel effects of the AP only take place on a succesfull melee hit. So switching to a non-magical weapon in combat to dispell buffing spells isn't always a good option, if the creature needs a +1 or higher enchanted weapon... your screwed.

Download the improved mages' script ( I think its part of tactics ) ... and watch in awe as some mages are smart enough to store both Protection from magical and normal weapons in a trigger.
Or sometimes not so smart,.. I once had a lich cast Protection from normal weapons ( erh .. mister lich .. even a +1 weapon cant hurt you ) and trying to cast PfMw right after that. Leaving me the rather quik job of whacking him on the head for that mistake

Realllly? I have the Improved Mages script and I very very rarely see a mage cast both in a spell trigger. How many magic-users besides liches have immunity to +1 weapons? For 95% of magic battles the AP will clean house just because of the fact that he can dispel magic with a plain old normal longsword.

Kind of related to this discussion:
I found that the Soul Reaver+6 from the Item Upgrade mod is excellent for dispelling Stoneskins. The +5 Magic damage hits though Stoneskins and then dispels them. So all Stoneskins are removed with one blast. [ 03-22-2003, 09:19 PM: Message edited by: pcgiant ]

In my experience, Evil parties handle most encounters *much* easier than good parties, in particular if your PC is a Fighter-type.
Other non-good NPC's to add - Jan, Yoshimo, & Cernd. OK, Cernd sucks, but Jan is pretty useful for Evil parties. Imoen will love ya no matter what your alignment. In Throne of Bhaal, you get another excellent Evil NPC option. Anti-Paladins' Dispel ability is *way* overpowered, IMO. Simply because, as Six said, it is effective with any of the high-end weapons in the game (or even a normal dagger), not just Carsomyr (or SotM, which few Fighters wield), & you can get Grand Mastery in whatever weapon type you want (as opposed to being limited to 2 stars in 2-H Weapons). Also, I don't think the Githyanki Anti-Paladins are really Anti-Paladins, as per the kit, but rather Fighter-types with the name "Anti-Paladin", with no kit abilities. Finally, it's impossible to cast Pro-Magic Weapons while Pro-Normal Weapons is active (& vice versa). The second will fizzle. Same with trying to cast Pro-Normal Weapons with any of the Mantle spells. Your PC can get "immune to <+1 weapons" via the Hell trials & still cast Pro-Magic Weapons, however. - Imrahil |

True true .. quite impossible to cast both after eachother
But that's why we love our triggers so much ![]() ![]() Also, the fight just before the last and the last fight in ToB are both quite a bit easier if you are good/neutral IMHO.
