What item would that be. I never found anything good on him.

And one shot with Hair giant crossbow with magical ammo can make a lot of damage. After the shot turn to melee and tank (Firing with a crossbow dont take that much time).
As far as I know, hitting an enemy spellcaster and causing damage will cause him/her/it to lose the spell, no matter if the weapon was a +2 arrow or a +4 staff or a regular sword. Maybe it's personal preference, but I like to send at least two people charging out to battle so the spellcasters will focus their spells on the people who won't get hurt (the tanks) so the people who might get hurt (the archers/slingers and spellcasters) can do their thing without taking damage or getting interrupted themselves.

BTW, bows are fast to fire but don't do as much damage as crossbows. Crossbows pack more of a punch per round, but are slower to fire.

The order I did my (major) quests in chapters 2/3:

  • Circus
  • Slaver ship
  • Harper business (I had Jaheira in my party)
  • Thieves Guild
  • started Chapter 3
  • de'Arnise keep
  • Umar Hills
  • Trademeet
  • Windspear
  • theater/Haer'Dalis
  • Unseeing Eye
  • tied up other minor quests
  • started Chapter 4
Your actual mileage may vary, but this route took me through the game with a few reloads per area, the most being the Windspear quest.
Following the listed order, try not to buy any gear until Windspear Hills, at the earliest. You'll get some nifty items that are either a step below what the merchants sell, or much better. You don't need uber gear to go through these quests, just some specific items and a gameplan. The game usually gives you the stuff you need, but the strategy is your own doing.

Zarr mentioned the Unseeing Eye quest. Don't go charging into it blindly! (Blindly. Hehe.) The only time you'll figure out that the place is too difficult is when it's impossible to turn back. Literally. If you can get through Umar Hills and the theater, you're probably ready for Unseeing Eye.

I think I'm pro-Anomen the way Mazzy Fentan is a paladin. By all sets and standards, we shouldn't be the way we are, but somehow, we are anyway. Anomen is worth it. Don't go to the sewers without him.

My problem with my party: i dont have any cleric and dont appreciate Anomen and i'd prefer going without Aerie but i feel i'll have problems dealing with level absorption.
However i may take Anomen and Mazzy and throw Keldorn (there is only one Dex improvement item, isnt it?)

There's a Full Plate in ToB which raises your Dexterity with 1 point, but the GoD are the only items who raises it that much, yes.

Only one of Evil alignment would choose to wait longer than necessary to rescue his sister I always go as soon as possible, which is often right after doing the Slaver Quests (also gets you a +3 Weapon for Minsc), not only because it makes Chapter 4 and 5 somewhat challenging, but also because I usually want either Imoen and/or Solaufein in my party as fast as possible.

Just about every single quest available in Chapter 2 & 3 is still available in Chapter 6.

About Mazzy vs Valygar, if you got the GM Patch (included in the Baldurash Fixpack), there's no question. Mazzy can be a grand master in any weapon she pleases and that alone makes her far superior to Valygar. You don't have to give her a bow or a short sword to be effective just because she has those proficiencies, she can almost work her way up to five stars in a whole new weapon before the XP cap of SoA.

If you don't have the patch however, Mazzy has no noticeable advantages over Valygar, except a slightly more interesting personality. Valygar is mind-numbingly boring most of the times, but he has a higher strength and his spell selection is better than Mazzy's special abilities. Overall, they're quite equal. Can use the same weapons with almost the same efficiency, they both have 18 DEX which makes them equally good tanks, they're equally durable, and both of them are going to require a strength-enhancing item of some form in the near future to be effective fighters.
