Grab a class with training wheels.

I recommend a triple class character. Either try a Fighter Mage Thief or a Fighter Mage Cleric. Both are good. One has incredible buffs, one has stealth and powerful traps as an asset. Both are capable of surviving pretty much anything thrown at them. Both have the ability to apply brute force at any situation (Which is something you are familiar with) and come out clean from most anything.

As for weapons, a FMT can use pretty much anything. A FMC however, has some restrictions. I would highly recommend getting some stars in staves for the Staff of Rhynn and eventually the Staff of the Magi, which has to be the best possible weapon for a FMC.

For solo I would advice a:

- Sorcerer - Tough class for the first time if you are not familiar with spellcasters but they are so powerfull when used right
- Barbarian - Number 1 tank, great hp (use half-orc of dwarf for con. bonus)
- Multi-Class - Try Mage/Fighter/Thief.. then install Tactics mod and set it on Insane and be like Xen , great way to explore the benefits of each class... or use Priest instead of mage.

It's all on you.. every class can be solod but the game must be fun when doing it... Sorcerer or Barbarian are fun IMO for soloing tour.

I'll join Jim by suggesting the Fighter/Mage. Get the best of both worlds!

If you have ToB, you might also consider the Halfling Fighter/Thief. It's up there with the Fighter/Mage and the Sorcerer in the "Best Soloist" category.

My first solo (and still the best) was with a Ranger dueled to a Cleric at level 9. The guy mowed down anything and everything in its path duel wielding FoA and Crom Faeyr. Advantages:
Warrior’s constitution boost
Ranger’s duel wielding bonus points
Cleric’s ability to level up fast
Priest AND druid spells
Buffing beyond belief {Ironskins, barkskin, bless, chant, draw upon holy might, protection from evil, armor of faith, aid, holy power, negative plane protection, blade barrier and about a dozen more
Summons: woodland being, fire elemental, undead, animals, aerial servant,
Turn undead (it’s great watching things blow up just because you’re standing still)
Hide in Shadows
Can wear any armor, helmets, gauntlets etc.
You can heal yourself.
True you have to bite the bullet when it comes to traps but you can heal yourself.

Bite the bullet for traps?

Malarky!

Clerics have plenty of ways to deal with traps. Find Traps, Death Ward, and since you have Iron Skins, along with Shield of the Archons, you have ALL your bases covered. Barkskin helps too for saving throws early on. I can not stress enough, most people ignore Barkskin. It helps. Not a whole lot later, but, early on, it can be a life saver.

Phe-yew! I survived the Irenicus dungeon, so I'm proud already! The dungeon itself wasn't that hard, because I know all the traps (who doesn't? ) and the opponents were taken care of fairly easy. The only one posing a threat.. no, come to think of it, there was no threat. Died twice (once because of a particular nasty trap in "HER" chambers, and once because I forgot to sleep and restore my amount of spells..d'oh!) Pretty decent for a first time. Ditched Jaheira and Minsc of course, missed the dialogue of Khalid, though, but hey who cares.. I know it by heart

Currently I'm still on Waukeen's Promenade. Done the Circus Tent already (too easy! ) and I'm trying frantically to kill the bastards upstairs in the Den of the Seven Vales. Having no luck, but I can kill the Mage AND Pooky Yay! Mencar Pebblecrusher, his barbarian friend and the invisible backstabbing thief are still a little problem though.. they kill my summons far too quick!

Question 1: As a fighter/mage I cannot disarm traps, right? Just walk right over them, get damage, and heal myself. At least that's what I've done in Irenicus' Dungeon.

Question 2: It came to notice that I already had access to Level 5 spells in the Dungeon of Irenicus, but there weren't any level 5 spells around (I've got Animate Dead now). I suspect this is right, but just wanted to know for sure.

You cannot disarm them, use Stoneskin and Mirror Image to prevent traps causing damage to you.

The things you find in the Play House are random, there are only a few items that are always there (naming helm of balduran, chaos blade ect.)

Well... if you want, you can always buy a few scrolls to scribe from the scroll merchant in Waukeen Promenade, or from Lady Yuth in the Adventurer's Mart. I would highly recommend saving up to get the Robe of Vecna though.

Good spells to use at this stage include in no particular order,

1) Melf's Minute Meteors
2) Emotion
3) Greater Malison
4) Spook
5) Spell Immunity
6) Stoneskin
7) Skull Trap
8) Mirror Image

This should cover your Anti-Trap Tactics and combat spells too, mostly.

Dak'kon's Zerth Blade, a Katana, is a good item to buy too, from Deidre in the Adventurer's Mart. Unless you intend to fight the Cowled Wizards or pay them, cast your buffing spells like Stoneskin inside houses.

If it is night-time, consider staying in an inn until it is daylight to avoid the Vampires.
