It's not connected to the Flail of Ages... is it? I SWEAR there's something in the Flail's description about it attracting Rakshasa. I know that when it appened to me, I had the Flail in my Bag'O'Holding.

Be honest - who among us does not assemble the Flail?!?

Yes, the flail does say something about rakshasas. It says(i think) that rakshasas made the flail to entice foolish humans, and then kill them for the thrill, giving the flail to someone else after.

My first time thru the game, I didn't get the shapeshifter encounter. I had a paladin and a party of... ahhh crap I can't remember who was in it now. But I had been trying to romance Jaheira, and since the romance wasn't far enough along at the point that it matters *AHEMromancequestAHEM* I just went right on thru the game doing only what was necessary, leaving all uncompleted quests unfinished and storming forward in typical paladin fashion towards the most threatening evil I knew of. I went and had a lil chat in hell with Jon (we were on a first name basis at this point, he and I) smacked him around a bit, and that was that. It wasn't until after I beat the game and reloaded and CLUA'd myself out to finish the quests that I met up with the Mini Me Brigade. (cute lil fellas, aren't they?)

Ironically, it was also due to that battle with himself that my paladin realized how stupid he looked in the winged helm he was wearing... and went immediately to the Adventures' Mart to buy a new one... but that's completely unrelated.

Here is the Item Description of the Flail of Ages.

This flail has been in the care of Lord Arnise for some time, a relic of his adventuring youth. It has been kept disassembled, the individual pieces stored in separate locations, and only used in the direst of emergencies. Lord Arnise was likely concerned about the powerful magic that the weapon radiated when compiled, and rightfully so. A trail of destruction has followed it through history, leading straight back to the original owners. The flail was the creation of the warlike Rakshasa, a race of vengeful spirits that crave human meat, and used as an adaptable weapon that could suit any battle. During a particularly violent hunt the flail was lost, only to be returned when they used their affinity for magic to locate its powerful aura. They discovered that the weapon had found its way into the hands of a great human warrior, and the battle that followed was truly splendid. They have since used the item as bait countless times, 'losing' it again and again. Powerful items gravitate towards powerful people, and powerful people yield the most glorious battles.

This could indeed be the explanation about the peasant/rakshasa/doppelganger encounter in Chapter 6.

I tested it (The FoA explaination of the Peasants that show up in chapter 6 saying that someones needs your presence urgently), I didn't forge the FoA.

I'm in Chapter 6, I didn't even went to the D'Arnise hold until know .

I encounterd the peasants when I was travellig to the D'Arnise hold (what strange world it is ), so this nullifise the FoA and Rakshasa mystery... I still think they are Doppelgangers that seek revenge on the murder of there fellow doppel friend in the Play House (can somebody not kill this guy and then test it, if the ''war'' party encounter is not summoned then in Chapter 6?).

You mean our old friend Frennedan? I always kill him, save for once, when I allowed him to follow me. Frustrating little fellow.. got in the way at virtually everything!

I encountered them only once ... and have never had a bard in my party

EDIT: LoL, my reply makes no sense if you mean Irenicus'dungeon by "play house"

Newayz,.. I always liked the idea of the doppleganger-gang from BG1 wanting revenge. It's either that or the rakshasa idea if you ask me

What about the first time you go to the Athkatla gate, there is that smuggler who bribes a guard to let him in?

yup, gives him some black lotus (Odyseus, land of the lotus eaters! sory) to let him pass, but that doesnt really doesnt seem that wierd, it happens at the same till all the time, just alittle thing bioware added in to make it more realistic.

For anyone who's ever played BG1, there's a tent in the Nashkel carnival where there's a guy offering people the delights of the black lotus, some sort of pleasure-inducing drug. I'm guessing it's an opiate. Nice tie-in with the original game, if you ask me.
