hmmm, as i recall being a wizard slayer means you cant use any magical weapons or armor.. so if you are attacked with a greater werewolf that needs magical weapons to kill it, you would be a dead duck. so the only thing you are is to kill wizards and nothing else.. sigh, i dont think i would like that kind of character.. at least the bard has lots of cool armor and stuff also.

Well actually you can use magical weapons and armor. But not magical girdles, rings etc...

I know, Cerek. My character is still at so low level that even Valygar has better resistances with all his magical stuff. Things shall improve.

WHAT!!! the wizard slayer rocks.
you would rather hit some one with pixedust/cause serius harm rubbish? Or walk slowly up to some Uber mage look him in the eye and smile, as the dawning realisation that his magic is useless crosses his face and he begins to babble with fear as you remove your +5 paingiver!

I disagree on bards being the worst class. As you point out, Sythe, they are not particularly skilled at any one thing, but that is, in itself, their strength. They can cast mage spells, pick pockets, identify anything, fight reasonably well, and they also posess a powerful song once you reach the higher levels. They are very versatile and without doubt one of the more entertaining classes to play. The worst class is, in my opinion, either a straight fighter or a straight thief. I can't quite make up my mind on that one...

Now that's the spirit! And it leads to a very valid point. It doesn't matter what class you are; as long as you are roleplaying it is always going to be interesting.

Some classes are straightforward combat/magic whilst others call for a slightly different approach or playing style.

The real question is not what classes suck the most, but what class would you most like to see in a roleplaying game?

I don't know about you guys but I absolutely HATE Paladins. Whats the fun in being restricted to Lawful Good behaviour all the time? They're just absolutely boring IMHO. "Turn undead"? I can get my cleric to do that.

But your Priest can wield the Carsomyr.

IMHO, the worst class is the Beast Master. Not ability to use Armour over Studded Leather, can't use metal weapons... After all, the Beast Master is a warrior.

Greater Malison. Lower Resistance. Just two ways a high-level mage will lower your defences. And then, when the rest of his magic becomes useful - you have no chance.

Very true, andrewas, except for one little detail....by the time he finishes those two spells, I will have advanced to melee' and be happily beating him about the head and body with Crom Fryaer in one had and Bala's Axe (10% cumulative chance for Miscast Magic) in the other.

He won't be able to cast any spells because my Arrows of Dispelling will have taken down his Protective Spells (or Imoan will have used Pierce Magic - same effect).

But in all fairness, mages are the more powerful characters at high level. The warrior just has to be strong enough to withstand his magic and smart enough to overcome it. And the outcome really depends more on the player rather than the character. A smart player can find a way around an opponents defenses.

One REALLY easy tactic against mages is to let them cast all thier defensive spells....then just leave the room and wait a sufficient amount of time. Go back in after the spells durations have worn off and then start hacking away immediately since the mage no longer has magical protections to aid his defense.

By the same token, one of the all-time BEST tactics I ever heard of in any game occurred in a PNP game a friend of mine was in. He was playing a mage and the party encountered the BIG BOSS of the dungeon. My friend starts casting spells, only to find out that the Boss is protected by an impenetrable Anti-Magic Shell. He searches frantically for anything that will help, then notices the ceiling is made of stone. Thinking quickly, he casts Rock To Mud on the ceiling directly over the Big Boss. The ceiling turns to Mud and "oozes down" onto the Boss. Then it hits the Anti-Magic Shell and instantly turns back to stone.....crushing the Big Boss.
