Good article, an easy read for both sides of the fence.

http://www.businessweek.com/ap/finan.../D9MG4BH80.htm

Well summarized with a single phrase!
Quote:
"I shouldn't have to oversee a process in which Congress deals with last year's budget," Obama said as the time got short this week.

Fixed it for you since the orginal wasn't totally accurate.

It's ALSO interesting to note, since you're dragging in historical information that the national debt debt as a % of GDP has increased significantly MORE under DEMOCRACTIC congresses than under Republican ones..

Since 1980, the House of Representatives, which controls the nation's budget pursuant to Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution (subject to Presidential veto), has been controlled for 12 years by Republican Party and will be controlled for 18 years by the Democratic Party until 2010

Democratic Houses run budget deficits on average FIVE TIMES higher than Republican Houses (4.7% versus .9% of GDP).

But under any measure those last two years were a REAL Doozy!

First chart shows deficits during 1995 to present

Second chart shows deficits back to 1980 as % GDP

So who is it you want to blame the deficits on again?

As I said, Republican Presidents. Since Reagan they have all sought tax cuts for the wealthy and spent lavishly on making war. These have been the primary source of our deficit, and what is different than the decades prior to the 80's. Presidents play a heavy hand in directing congress on its budget items. It was Reagan more than any individual Representative that forced the tax overhaul of the 80's, he created the truthy term "trickle down economics," he was the force behind the arms race. Bush 43 was the force behind the Iraq war and the 2% tax cuts for the wealthy that cost us more every year than all the money congress got just done fighting over. I stick by what I said.

But facts are a stuburn thing, $1,251,730,000,000 Higher Actual Deficit between GWB and the Republican Congress's Last Budget and the First BHO and the Democrats first budget. But hey believe what you want TL.... Oh TL If you had listened to me over a year ago and bought Gold when I told you to at $1050.00 per oz you could have sold it Friday for $1505.00 per oz for a profit of over 40%. You could have rivaled Apples Profti margins and had 500% more profit then the Oil companies profit margins..... But what do I know????? ROTFLMAO Keep on keeping on TL. ROTFLMAOATWTTB

EDIT: WASHINGTON — The House on Wednesday passed a $410 billion omnibus spending bill packed with pet projects requested by Democrats and Republicans alike.

The 245-to-178 vote came just a week after President Obama signed one of the largest spending bills in the nation’s history, a $787 billion measure meant to rejuvenate a sluggish economy.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/26/us...s/26spend.html

* $410 billion PLUS $787 Billion equals $1197 Billion every single cent of it Deficit spending All done after BHO became president in 2009.

Bailout bailouts?????? TL as a lwayer do you happen to pas attention to Court cases? Like maybe the one against the FEDERAL RESERVE BANK????? Not the Federal Governement but the Federal Reservs bank... you know the bank you have gone to great lengths and writen several diotribes against explaining how the FRB wasn't part of the Gov't. (which is true) how do you square that the FRB isn't part of the gov't yet claim all the crap about the bailouts, when it was the FRB that passed out the vast majority of the Bailouts?????
