Oh, wow!. Good luck.

Wine doesn't like DC trying to force it into full screen mode.
How about running it in a window? I prefer
a window myself because I always have other
things going on.

I just spent the last two hours repeatedly crashing Linux on purpose. It seems there are two bugs/issues. The first was that Wine does not like to deal with spaces (like in 'Program Files') and it doesn't like dealing with the Windows short from (like in 'PROGRA~1'). Without this being resolved, Wine tries to load the engine, can't and resets to 640x480 resolution - no matter what res you are in OR were trying to load. Applications and menus do not shrink to fit as they would with a proper resolution change and most keyboard shortcuts stop working for some reason. With this resolved, i.e. putting DC in a different folder hierarchy, no forced resolution changes and all keyboard shortcuts continue to work.
The second issue is that Wine will not start the editor because it doesn't like the calls it uses for full screen. It doesn't crash anything, it just won't start at all.
So, the editor works 100% in Wine (not counting the test design options) and the engine works 0%.

I personally would love to have a windowed version of DC, not just so I could (hopefully) run it in Wine, but for testing purposes; especially for graphics testing, and design testing; but also for playing, as I almost never have only one window open on my computer, unless it's the first thing I've started that day. Maybe I just have too short of an attention span.

Is there no option in the config for
window'ed mode? If not, I will post
the debug version which ONLY (I think)
runs in a window. It is big and slow.

I agree that a window'ed version would
be desireable. I rather dislike full-screen
programs (except for screen-savers).

There is not option in the config file to run in a window.

I would certainly appreciate the debug version. I dont' so much want the big and slow, but if I can run DC in Wine that seems to be a fair trade-off at least for now.

OK....
Go to http://dianneandpaul.net/UAF

Get the latest debug version. It will act
very strange. But it should work.

Thanks Paul.

For some reason it doesn't work in Wine (but it does on my Windows machine). Worse than just not working in Wine, when I attempt to call it in the editor or start it on it's own, no error logs are generated for DC or for Wine. I have a couple of things to try - downloading the Microsft dlls for MFCs to start.

I'll report back when I have something new to add.

I just tried to make a self-contained executable
without need for .DLLs. I failed.

Can I ask this question once more? -----
How do I change the icon or picture associated
with my posts on this forum? A crescent moon
above a placid sea is nice but not what I
would choose had I a choice.

You can't change the icons here manually - you have to increase the number of posts and hope to get a cool picture

I personally liked the muppets picture that manikus had before the picture he has now...
