Aww, poor Mouse.
That wasn't the car you showed me in that poll of mine on how much cars suck, as it?

You did the right thing Mouse. Once the old bottom end goes it's only a matter of time. Time to move on.

She lost all her bottomly-shapelyness, Bristowe. That's a good a reason as any to leave a woman

Thanks for the interest and sympathy. However, I am now the owner of a smart looking black 1996 Nissan Primera 2L SRI with 52,000 miles on the clock. No doubt it will cause me some heartache, but that's life

In this particular setting (and if I've used the term incorrectly - so what ) "bottom end gone" means that the cylinder block is corroded and starting to lose coolant. The garage I took it to said the car was still driveable, provided I kept the coolant levels topped up. However, the only way to see the total extent of the corrosion would be to virtually disassemble the engine. Then the options would be to either a) try patching with some sort of sealant or b) more likely to junk the engine block and source a replacement.
As they quoted me around £250 simply to disassemble/reassemble for the investigation, and the worst case scenario would probably cost a four figure sum to rectify, I decided it was time to cut my losses. Strangely enough, I've always liked the Primera hatchback, and so when I saw it for sale, I simply did the deed (and got a £1000 trade in for the Corrado). I have probably gone against all canny car buying advice, because the Primera was sold "as seen", but what the hell
