Hey!
I've an F/M/C all close to level 6-7. Sometime back i checked my APR, it had changed from 1 to 1.5. Now its back to 1. I have proficiency(**) in maces, quaterstaves and slings. Is this normal?

What weapon were you using when it was 1?

one more thing. does a ranger get the one extra apr for darts without a shield. If so they can get an apr of 5.5 (since rangers can't grandmaster)?
I think I will try darts in my next game. If only for the variety. It is the only weapon I haven't really used at all in all my BG and IWD games.

The ranger only gets the extra ApR when using melee weapons, which does not include darts. It's been a while since I've played a single-class ranger, but I don't think rangers get the extra ApR for thrown axes or daggers, either.
@ Serak - double-check the weapons you are specialized (**) in, and check to see what weapon you are using. I suspect you are using a weapon you are proficient (*) in, or one that you have no proficiency in. Note that the spell Spiritual Hammer involves the hammer proficiency.

This technically means that as a > lvl 13 pure warrior, the max ApR you can receive (excluding haste) with a bow is 4.5, and that's with the Messenger of Seeth. [ 04-24-2006, 06:12 AM: Message edited by: Zink Whistlefly ] |

The only missile weapons capped at 3 PP are bows and crossbows. I can confirm that 5 PP is attainable for sc fighters in slings/darts, axes, and daggers.

Are you all sure that MISSILE can get past 3 PP? I'm fairly sure it is stuck at three!
Slings*: 1.0 base 0.5 for 2 PP (a 3rd adds +2 THAC0 & +1 damage) 0.5 for 7th level 0.5 for 13th level 2.5 total *A Halfling SC fighter would be best at slings when he/she hits level 13+ [now all you have to do is get the STR to 18/00 or 19 permanently] -- they get an additional +1 THAC0 {assuming they also have the 19 DEX} over the other races. Darts: 3.0 base 1.5 (from above) 4.5 total Note 1: You can't exceed 5.0 APR with proficiency unless hasted (which would max you out a 10.0 APR until it wears off.) Note 2: Bow and Crossbow PP's don't get APR jumps - only Missile. They do get level APR jumps though. Oh, unless you want a permanent wrist injury, get the Ease-of-Use when playing in HoF... Edit: you do get a 0.5 ApR jump with 2nd star proficiency point in bow / crossbow - despite what the book says; tested it (this may be HoW only though.) Yes, I'm sure. I have a dc F/D right now (in sc druid phase at the moment) with 5 PP in slings.

5 PP's in MISSILE then...
That makes me want two fighters up front with ***** in missile! Shield swapping is a PITA. I guess that, with exception of the rare DC fighter (favoring the missile over the melee - unless you were to go to level 18 fighter), nobody needs to make 5 PP missile fighter - especially when one knows there is a throwing axe +2 down the road. Some sights, like: http://www.planetbaldursgate.com/iwd...ecialize.shtml say that PP APR only applies to melee, but that isn't true for the missile proficiency {only bow / crossbow as mentioned above.} That would mean the sling would be 3.5 APR with Grand Mastery and darts 5.0 APR (hmm...stun darts could reek havoc in the hands of a fighter here.)
