I must agree, using internet slang that much isn't really useful and bothersome for those not quite as accustomed to it. Also, it makes things more difficult for many non-native speakers, who may have to puzzle out what the abbreviations mean. However, I have nothing against things like LOL, ROFL, IMHO or similiar, they are a useful way to shorten often-used but somewhat unwieldy phrases. However, when you is replaced by u and for by 4, that is the point where I must say: enough.
Just MHO!

No offense to any who do, but to me, when people use the slang shortcuts, it looks stupid. When I'm goofing off with friends though on Battle.net, I'll type all "stupid" just to piss them off. But on Battle.net, there's lots of Koreans that play and have horrid English typing, so we type like that too just for kicks.

omg ur so lame kthxbye, gg pwned~
lololz~!@

Heh heh.

Amen . The one I hate the most is ur for your. It doesn't look like your. It doesn't sound like your. It looks and sounds like grunting . And when someone grunts at me... . And it's like saving time for the sake of it. I know someone who says 'bi' instead of 'bye'. I'm sure that millisecond of time saved by not writing an extra letter will be well used

I'm with Epona, I've been typing for 15 years, no need for slang. Plus, as Arledrian mentioned, it kind of takes the seriousness and/or respect away from the poster if done too much. Some here and there tossed in like LOL or IMHO or BTW isn't bad, I do that myself, but frequent slanging just gets on my nerves and usually I just skip over the post altogether if I encounter it.
